I would imagine that the 16" is effective but instead of full power swings relying on the length and weight as with the longer batons, you would use short, snapping hits, more wrist than arm. A lanyard would also be a good idea so that you can even swing the whole baton if needed and...
You can get a Spyderco Native at Wal-Mart for a good price, it's one of their low end knives but that still makes it higher end than Frost or United Cutlery and the crap they dare call knives. Also be on the lookout for Cold Steel's Voyager line of knives, decent price and good working knives.
I have three revolvers ( two .44 Trail bosses and .357 SP101 ) and my wife has a nice little Scandium S&W .32mag and never have I felt " under protected " when carrying them versus an auto ( though the .32 seems kinda tiny which is why it isn't my gun  ) but what I appreciate most for...
Though some folks seem to enjoy bashing them you may want to give the Cold Steel Voyager line a look, they are light but strong and come in a variety of sizes and blade configurations.
Also, Dev Null had a point, you may want to use a small fixed blade for some of your needs and save the...
How about Eraser? the bad guys have x-ray scopes ( still waiting to hear the physics behind that one ) and are firing the old standby of depleted uranium bullets from what is essentially a handheld rail gun.
Actually, I just popped the disc in my dvd player and the shooter in Full Metal is using a mini-14 with an aftermarket bull pup stock...problem solved....wait...umm, on second thought it may be a P90...damn cheapo player...$25 bucks is a steal my ass!
I think you should consider upping that to $300 because it will give you more options, but, if you want to spend less but still be effective then look around for a good shotgun. You can get a Mossberg 500 for about 200-250 and it will definitely get the job done.
Years ago when I worked as a cashier and spoke with the cops who would come in ( this is in Nevada ) their opinion was to keep it to myself unless asked to get out of the vehicle. The general consensus seemed to be they didn't need to know about it unless they were going to search you or the car...
It's amazing to me how many people are anti-gun simply because they are afraid of them either due to never having been exposed to them ( fear of the unknown ) or because of a " bad situation " in their past ( often some jerk scaring them with a gun or giving them a .44 for their first time...

The ICL's are pricey at several thousand per eye but consider that against the cost of eyeglasses and the sheer pleasure of not having to wear them anymore. To me it is definitely worth saving for, hell, there are tv's that cost that much without being nearly as useful or life...
FWIW Cold Steel is now putting out a video on using the Sjambok as a defensive tool. There is a teaser on their new Solid Proof dvd and it looks interesting, along with being flexible the Sjambok is also quite tough and can be used to " tie up " an opponents limbs or used as a lever for throws...
Instead of Lasik...
Hello,
As a current eyeglass wearer with very bad nearsightedness I definitely feel this thread but wanted to make you folks who might be considering having Lasik done for the first time or again about another option. There is an implant called an Implantable Collamer...
I have to agree with Kevin Quinlan on this one, get a dog as an early warning sytem, possible bad guy deterrent ( easier to move on to a house with no dog ), possible protection for your child against another dog. There are too many ways for your dog to be incapacitated and variables in a self...

I think there are a few in England who may not find the current trend so dandy and who might disagree with the willingness to be searched just because someone didn't like your music. As a matter of fact I can think of one Englishman who, in my opinion, would not be happy, you...
James,
I too am not a viable candidate for Lasik because my eyes are past the point that laser surgery can fix. However, there is hope as far as seeing without glasses in a product called an Implantable Collamer Lens or ICL, these were recently approved by the FDA to treat both...
