    1861 Springfield vs 1853 Enfield

Reproductions are reproductions Don't think the Springfield has any particular advantage over the Enfield. I don't buy the Springfield stock benefit...but just my opinion. And one reproduction maker can do a better job than another in the product they offer. I have an Italian reproduction...

More C&R questions from a former C&R holder.

Thanks I picked up a 2000 issue regulations book that stops with 178.125e...no f.

More C&R questions from a former C&R holder.

Now I'm confused I hold the same opinion as Dogtown Tom. It's been said multiple places that new license holders need not post information on weapons acquired previous to a C&R to the "bound book"....like at Cruffler.com. Look at the bottom two frequently asked...

    Are Gun Forums becoming P.C...

It all depends on what you consider PC Not PC seems to be PC. How many times have we all seen somebody ranting about something at some site and start off with a remark of how independant a thinker they are and how proud they are to be not politically correct? Then they going on to say...

    wonder wads

I like them too What would make you think Bore Butter or any other grease is historically authentic? Can you imagine Civil War officers with a grease soaked pistol in their holster? Or them reloading with grease in the middle of a battle?

    I need some help please!

Do you have a scanner? Scan the picture at about 150 dpi. Save it as a jpg to your desktop. Go to a post screen. In the bottom you will see a green bar that says Manage Attachments. Click. See a window that says browse with a button. Hit that and find the jpg. Hit upload. Wait for a bar to...

    Spiller & Burr

No Difference from a Remington? I beg to differ. The Remington cylinder pin is of a different and, in my opinion, better design. The pin that turns to release the cylinder pin on the Spiller is just too easy to turn around in use and release the pin. The Remington pin is dependent upon...

Vietnam War sniper rifle 30-06 or .308

GunTech I didn't know the guy. The only snipers I ever knew were strange at best and loners. It's a chance he was not in the 6/31st at all but was more than likely in the 3/60th 9th Division in Vietnam as one site shows the 3/60th as being where he was when awarded both DSC medals. However,his...

Vietnam War sniper rifle 30-06 or .308

The Army The Army used a slightly modified M14 with the 7.52 Nato round. Here's a link to some info and a picture of a guy from my old unit. http://www.olive-drab.com/od_other_firearms_rifle_m21.php

    Traditions .50 ?

Two piece stocks are a drawback. I got a rifle like yours made in Spain for Connecticut Valley Arms a lot of years ago. It came as a kit and I decorated it up a little with a patch box and inlays. When I shoot it, and it is a good shooter by the way, the stock opens a gap where the two...

I'm done with "high and left"

Sagetown, I'll give it a try next time I go to the range, although I have little faith at the moment of me hitting any target smaller than a UPS truck........broad side facing me.

Q on seating wads in revolvers

I like the wads I find that Crisco just makes for a greasy mess after you reload a time or two.

Q on seating wads in revolvers

You don't have to ram the wads down first. Just put in the powder, put in the wad, set the ball on top of the wad and it pushes the wad down easy for a little ways by just finger pressure. Then use the ram on the pistol to seat the ball down over the load and this pushes the wad down to the powder.

I'm done with "high and left"

Hard to believe A hit that takes out General Jeb Stuart at over 200 yards with an 1860 Colt? If it happened that way the aim must have been about like the elevation on a howitzer at 5000 meters. I'm with the doctor I can agree that more or less powder at pistol ranges may work in...

    Why I HATE the NRA

I think the original question was at base a question of does the end justify the means as far as the predatory way the NRA goes after its members for money. Looks like the most vocal supporters feel that the end does justify the means, and not only that, but that anybody who feels...

    Why I HATE the NRA

I'm with the original post I didn't stop belonging to the NRA because they sent me mail all the time or that they called me now and again. But when they started sending me unasked for tapes of Tales of the Gun and wanting some money I was done. Looks like Wayne LaPierre continues to run...

    Pietta .44 NMA 1858

less is better with pistols If your friend thinks 44 grains with a 44 makes sense , he's just wrong. 20 or slightly more grains works best in my Remington and Colt .44's.

    Grammar for Gunnies

Grammer? I could care less It doesn't bother me much if somebody misplaces a punctuation mark and gets objective and subjective pronouns mixed up. What gets me on the gun sites is the frequent misuse of the word "shot" for "shoot" or the use of "sell" for "sale". Century Arms used to be...
