A Revolver and a Mock Trial....

Many thanks to everyone for so many responses that go a long way to confirm some of the things I'd been thinking. BTW, I haven't been given any info about the gun except that it was a .38 revolver.... I'd been wondering if maybe issues regrading the weapon could be used to poke holes in the...

A Revolver and a Mock Trial....

Hello all – I’m a law student and shooter who still gets out to the range when I get a chance, but right now I’m working on a mock trial that involves a revolver and me wanting a little extra expertise (that’s ya’ll). In one part of the hypothetical case, a discharged (presumably honorably)...

    Good 7.62x54r ammunition deals?

Just shot my Mosin-Nagant for the first time today and I'm pretty hooked. Of course, this is gonna require some ammunition -- does anyone know what/where is the best rate for surplus 54r these days? Are there any hassles getting the bulk stuff shipped to you? Thanks, JD

    Breaking: Omaha, NE mall shooting

It's being reported that the shooter was using an SKS and had two magazines taped together. Although I've seen examples otherwise, don't I recall that most SKSs are generally loaded with stripper clips, not magazines? Is the likelihood higher that it's being mis-reported than that the shooter...

    1898 -- why that year?

By the way, does SSA stand for something related to social security?

    1898 -- why that year?

Thanks for the info, everyone. With regards to the Mauser 98, I thought that, but in terms of bolt action military rifles the 1891 Mosin-Nagant was even earlier. I dunno.... One person I know has suggested it's not related to firearms laws, but rather to the laws on what is officially...

    1898 -- why that year?

I'm here in NC where 1898 is the dividing year between antique and modern firearms. Why that year? There are similar weapons on both sides of the line and plenty of "modern" guns before then and "primitive" ones afterwards. So why 1898? Thanks, John

    Mace Brand

Well, I hope this doesn't seem juvenile, but some friends and I actually did a little experiementing with some 15% red pepper spray ("The Neutralizer") this weekend.... I've got some friends who carry this sort of stuff for defense. This was about 50% educating on how well it works and 100%...

    Fully rifled barrel for HD?

Well, as entertaining as "the Krispy Kreme from Hell" sounds, I agree it's not what I'm looking for in an HD barrel. Thanks, I feel more edumacated.

    Fully rifled barrel for HD?

A local store has an 870 combo for sale with a 20-inch fully-rifled deer barrel. I've heard that a rifled barrel messes up your shot pattern, but with buckshot at HD ranges does that really matter? I'm new to this stuff, and would welcome the wisdom of more experienced folks.

    Gun-owning Journalist....

Off the record... and by the way, unless I specifically ask you and we specifically, happily, mutually agree (I could probably do a column on the subject if folks want)... don't worry, this is all totally off the record and you can quote me on that :) (I try to be a good journalist)

    Gun-owning Journalist....

Hey folks, I'm a young journalist (still doing some writing, mostly photos these days) and I'm a gun owner. Sometimes it doesn't seem like the two go together, sometimes it does, but I occasionally get a view of journalist idiocracy when it comes to weapons.... I remember going out...
