    03 a3 loose bolt

Mine still has the 3 position safety. So it sounds like this is as designed? I prefer carrying in the middle position as it's quicker to move to "fire" but can see why that may not be possible.

    03 a3 loose bolt

Thanks for the replies. Good information, Yes, once fired, there is what I would consider normal tension required to open the bolt and re-cock the cocking piece. Likewise if I manually cock it by just pulling it back. I do typically have the safety on when I this happens. Are you...

    03 a3 loose bolt

I have a smith corona 03a3 with a loose bolt. That is when it is closed, the handle will easily fall open. All it takes is (with the rifle parallel with the ground) for the rifle to be turned upside down and the bolt handle falls open. Whether or not a round is chambered makes no difference...

    Protection/family dog

Look here: http://www.offa.org/hipstatbreed.html They maintain statistics for hip and elbow displasia and several other health problems. The #1 dog for hip displasia is the bulldog. 73% of those examined had it. The American bulldogs were 15th on the list at about 32% (top 10%). American...

    Protection/family dog

Consider this: Consider that most of the bulldog breeds suffer many health problems due to poor breeding. Just because the parents don't display the characteristics doesn't mean the puppies wont. This breed is likely to cost you a bundle. I wouldn't buy any breed, much less one of these...

What can I do for fun with my .22

Rats, Good if you have a barn nearby. Try the cb caps for indoor work. Basically the same velocity as a good .22 pellet rifle with a bullet twice as heavy. Set up some bait where you have a good backstop. Look at ratkill.com for more than you ever wanted to know about rat shooting.

    BIG BEAR RIFLE

Ditto the .375. Also consider the big Marlin lever actions if range will be short. 45-70, .444, etc.

    Police officers, insight needed

Enforcing the speed limit with a citation hardly seems draconian. It sounds like you just got caught. People describe speed traps in a lot of different ways, but you saw the police car, so it doesn't seem to fit the normal definition. It sounds like you are afflicted with the realization...

To my fellow gamers out here...

You said a lot there. In unarmed defense we talk about muscle memory. You practice the same moves over and over again until the movement becomes second nature. I think what you are saying can be true with the mind. Particularly for those that go off the deep end and are confronted with...

Favorite .30-06 Factory Load for Deer?

The .30-06 is plenty gun for deer. The 150 to 165 grain bullets are ideal. I would prefer the 165 for longer ranges (350 yards plus). Main thing for deer is to avoid the super premium stuff. The stouter bullets (bonded core bullets) wont meet enough resistance in a smaller deer, and will not...

    Rifle for dummies

You are correct about all that. And I missed his "sd" request the first time I read his post. Given that I would suggest a pump shotgun and a .22 rifle. Best of both worlds, with no compromises. Absolutely the cheapest to shoot for practice (short of an air rifle), and the most effective...

Good deal on RWS model 34 air rifles

I just picked up an RWS 34 (German made) from midsouthshooterssupply.com. They have them in .22 and .177 for $160.00. That's about $60.00 less than what most places are selling them for. Looks like the .22's are sold out now. I'm looking forward to practicing with it some this week.

    Rifle for dummies

I'm in that "faction" so I guess I'll bite. I had a main battle rifle once, when I was in the Army. The guy said nothing about doing any battle. I think people suggest that, myself included, because we assume that not everyone is preparing for the Red Dawn. I hunt quite often, but battle...

Answering some questions (hope this stays open)

Again, you drop 1,000,000 tons of steel and concrete in the middle of a city and you are suprised there was collateral damage? What must that have done to the foundations of nearby buildings? Think the equivilant of 16 (fully loaded) panamax bulk cargo ships.

Answering some questions (hope this stays open)

I heard this argument somewhere as well. They showed all these buildings that burned for longer than the twin towers and didn't fall. Must be a conspiracy huh? What they conveniently didn't mention in the comparison was that none of these other buildings were struck by a 200 ton airplane...

False Imprisonment, CCW, and "Code Adam"

Well, the thread started with the scenario of a code adam, so not only do you have a kid screaming, but a child is also reported missing. I don't think you tackle mom going out the door, but any parent can appreciate the situation and the need to be absolutely sure under those circumstances.

False Imprisonment, CCW, and "Code Adam"

I would hope that if someone saw this they would do more than just follow the suspect. You are clearly in the right to use force to defend another person from death or serious bodily harm. Abduction qualifies. If all your capable of is following, then do it. Frankly I don't think I could...

    CCI .22 Short CB Questions

You probably don't want to shoot these things in your basement. I used to do it too, with regular long rifle rounds no less. Problem is the lead. Both from the bullet and the primer.

    incident, need advice

Pepper Spray And I agree that you shouldn't trust your life, or that of another, to pepper spray. I've had it myself, it's not that bad. It's not going to stop anyone, or anything from doing something if they are really intent on it.

    incident, need advice

If my kids are on the dog owners property I can see it. But I am not required to take on risk, or training requirements, just because my neighbor has a dog they can't manage. And I don't buy that you can predict animal behavior. Not in your own animal, and certainly not in anyone elses...
