    CCW, camping & motorcycles

First, Zoogster, thank you for reminding folks just how complicated some of the CA laws are. I usually carry in a shoulder holster but sometimes use fanny pack when riding. I'm not comfortable leaving the pistol on the bike given that Harley hard bags are stolen pretty frequently. Before I...

    My CCW was outed today...

I wonder if the paper can be held liable if any of the listed guns get stolen and used in a crime. Since part of my good cause statement was fear of robbery, would that have kept me off her published list? Glad I'm not living in Humboldt. I'd say more, but I'm not sure I could manage anything...

How many spare mags for CCW

I typically carry 2 spares. My Sig P225 doesn't have a large capacity and the double mag case I have makes the decision pretty easy. I'm all for not having a single point of failure, too.

    ccw question

I have a fanny pack for those situations when I don't feel like dealing with everything associated with IWB/OWB carry. It has 3 pockets. 1 takes my pistol, 1 takes spare magazines, and the last takes my wallet, cell phone, flashlight, and any other little thing I may need. When I'm shuffling out...

Overreacted or was he just an idiot?

Actually, I've been using grocery stores for years because frequently you don't need to buy anything, and even if you do, a pack of gum is usually far less than the service fee at an ATM.

Email conversation with a Judge to be

California has some pretty strict liability laws when it comes to firearms and children. Perhaps education and enforcement of them would ease the judge's conscience. From http://www.firearmslawcenter.org/states/california.asp: Under California Penal Code § 12035(b)(1), a person is liable...

Very intresting test, is that a gun or a cell phone?

It's interesting. I like the fact that it's testing my reaction time. It would be more useful if it gave a summary of my mistakes. As I was going through it, not knowing the outcome, I was thinking that things were moving too fast for me to collect any identifying information. I'd like to see...

    Securing the house

I love it! Get some bougainvillea or climbing roses going and it will be downright pretty. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that you've come up with a great solution for over penetration. Any round capable of going through that is probably overkill for intruders. ;-)

Is a fanny pack considered concealed? In Florida?

Some of the responses I've gotten from the question, "Does this fanny pack make me look (insert self depreciating adjective here)?" "It's not the fanny pack." "It would, but I know what's in it." One friend of mine refers to it as my War Bag. Yeah, I'd love to use an IWB holster, but I...

Thoughts on carry for a motorcyclist.

For now, I use a shoulder holster when I can keep my jacket on and a fanny pack when I know the jacket will be coming off. Hopefully I'll find a decent vest soon as the fanny pack ruins the lines of the bike. ;-)

How I love me some California, and the DOJ (and Turners Outdoors)

Not all Turners are equal I only go to the Signal Hill store, well, did when I still lived in LA (in Fresno now). Robert was fantastic and was instrumental transforming my girlfriend. She was terrified of guns before I took here there, and after 2-3 trips with a couple trips to the trap range...

Which 3 on your CA CCW?

Currently I only have my Sig P6(P225) listed on my permit. I'm planning on adding my second Sig, P6, but need to transfer it into my name. I'm thinking of picking up either a subcompact 9mm semi, or a small S&W revolver. The California CCW only has 3 lines for weapons, but, depending on the...

    COM size?

It seems to me there is no standard size as it would change depending on distance. Something 5 yards away provides a much bigger target than something 25 yards away. For me, I'd like to be able to shoot the smallest area at the furthest distance in the quickest time when it comes to...

If you were an employer, and wanted to codify a workplace ccw policy ...

What about getting armed security certification for any employee who wanted to carry at work? Make them part of a security/disaster preparedness committee. This should help manage the insurance and liability issues that might come up.

A group of men threatend to Sodomize me tonight.

My keys are kept on a 3", steel, load bearing carabiner. It is legal anywhere in the US. Planes, trains, bars, schools, anywhere. You might want to pick up a maglite, too. C/D cell depending on the size of your hands. Having some additional light walking to/from the bus can be nice, right?

    Gun Fashion Question

.357 revolver on the hip with a modern kilt, in a shoulder rig with a Victorian/dress kilt. With a great kilt, probably black powder wheel lock built into a targe. A wood+blue shotgun would work with any of those. Also, don't forget the less-lethal options. Some folks like pepper spray, but I...
