Did I overreact? My wife thinks I'm becoming a gun nut

You need to drive a few times with a cougar sitting beside you. Right now you are one twitchy dude.

270 Winchester vs. 7mm Remington Magnum

.270 and 7 mm Remington Magnum are functionally equivalent. Once again, the real differences lie in the rifle, the projectile used and the shooter.

    270 or 308 or 30-06

Real World: .270 = .30-06 = .308 = .280 Rem = 7mm-08 = 6.5x55 = .260 Rem = 7x57 It is the rifle, the projectile used and the shooter that make the difference, not the caliber or chambering.

    .22 LR Bolt Rifle

For the stated purpose and budget, there is one clearly best answer: Any of the Remington 5'teen series that can be found in decent shape. A classic. One that will give pride of ownership many many years into the future. One that will be accurate, one that will be reliable, one that will...

    22 mag

The bottom one is my most favoritest rifle for whenever I am out and about. It is a .22 WMR, I think it's a great round for coyote sized stuff out to 100 yards. Isn't that stock just too beautiful for words?

    Pick 3 rifle calibers.

One always always always needs a good .22 LR bolt rifle first and foremost. To cover the full spectrum in centerfire: .223 7mm-08 .375 But one good .30-06 would really take care of everything now, wouldn't it?

30.06 owners :best projectile for deer ?

For deer in .30-06 I like 165 Sierra Game King. They are not exotic or new, but they are accurate, reliable and affordable. I have not had any Game King bullet fail me on deer from my .270 or the .30.06. I don't think any of the advanced bullet designs are needed for whitetail hunting.

    What's Your Deer Rifle?

I have two that I am fond of. A one owner Ruger M-77 RL tang safety in .270 (it is the ultra light model with 20" bbl.). I glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel and it is now very accurate. A Remington 760 in .30-06. It is very handy when you are moving around a lot in a...

Top 10 Combat Rifles of All TIme

Actually General Patton placed fifth in the modern pentathlon at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The biography on the George S. Patton website makes no mention of a wound suffered in Mexico. He was wounded in the leg in WWI whilst in command of a tank battle. I have no doubt that he was a very...

*another* Need to make a decision.

Everyone should own a good quality .22 LR bolt rifle. I like 77/22. CZ is another terrific choice. Savage would be down the list a little ways, but still qualifies as a good rifle. And for the first rifle question. Zero doubt that the correct choice is .22 LR. Good on you for looking...

    Lever Action in War

I wonder what Custer and his men thought about lever action rifles as they faced the Sioux.

Why did the U.S. Military give up on the M-14 so quickly?

Dead horse alert. However. Carried both. Give me an M16 ten times out of ten for man killing.

    Lever vs Bolt

I would take a bolt action because they are better than lever actions for every purpose under the sun. Think that about covers it.

J-Frame Grip Choice - Hogue Bantam vs. Pachmayer

I've got a set of Pachmayers on my model 60. If I thought something else was better I'd have it. 10-4 on the grip covering the back strap.

    SAVAGE VS TIKKA

Savage for the accutrigger, aftermarket options, the barrel mount / easy change system and American manufacture. Tikka if you really like an exceptionally ugly rifle.

    Ruger 7722

I have two 77/22's, one blue and walnut in .22LR and one SS All Weather in .22 WMR. Both are accurate and I like them a lot. All I've done to them is a lighter trigger spring. Mine are using field guns and safety is paramount.

    BEST .22 THERE IS?

Sporters only: Anschutz is pretty up there. A nice Kimber is pretty up there. Winchester 52 is pretty up there.
