What have you done in the reloading room today

For more than 10 years I washed brass in hot soapy water - when I cleaned it at all beyond wiping with a rag. I didn't own a tumbler, which didn't really become popular until some time in the 90s. One could tell always see who was shooting reloads back then; their brass was brown. Some...

As a bullet caster, my dreaded time approaches!

I've been saving my Zn weights. I ingotize them, in an ingot mold that is nothing like the one I use for lead. I'm not sure why I'm saving it, but that's what I do. I will probably eventually sell it as scrap. It's not pure Zn, but a Zamac of some sort; a Zinc/aluminum/copper alloy.

What have you done in the reloading room today

I bought a single 8# of IMR 4895 from PV in early 2016. ~$174 incl Frt & HM., as part of a larger order. So, $600 for a 4-jug case would have been about right for that time period.

What have you done in the reloading room today

Transferred the last pound from an 8 lb'r of 2400. Bought that 8 from Powder Valley in Apr 2018, for $149. Plus freight of course, but it was part of a much larger order, so freight and HM was probably only a buck or so per pound. $149, just a few years ago. Edit to add: Just checked PV...

As a bullet caster, my dreaded time approaches!

I've got a few of the 1 pound ingot molds. If a fella has only a few hundred pounds of lead, that's the cheapest way to go. I started out with molds homemade with angle iron that threw about 2.5 lbs each. I moved to the one pounders which stacked easier, but it's a hassle pouring so many. I...

What have you done in the reloading room today

Only bring as many as you want to shoot, because once you start you can't stop. About 1050 fps, just a pfft and giggles. Here's 25 yards, standing offhand, iron sights, 3.5 Promo; so just a tad less powder, and under 1000 fps.

    What did you shoot today?

Took the twins out to the 300 yard line - Two Sako Finn M-39 rifles. Serial numbers about 2000 apart: one stamped 1941, the other 1943. Here's one - And the other - Notice the fan on the bench? At 37 degrees, my specs were fogging up. I need some breeze to clear them. Brrr. Shooting...

I tried to ignore this, but darn it, somebody had to buy it...

I probably would have bought it on the first visit. A few weeks eating noodle Ramen or PBJ sammiches would have set the budget back on track. Nice revolver.

    .41 Mag Association

True story: I had a set of 41 Mag dies sitting on my shelf for years. I'm not certain how I came to own them; perhaps a long-forgotten trade, or a lot purchase. However it was, there they sat. I moved them out of the way from time to time, each time pondering why I even had them. I thought...

As a bullet caster, my dreaded time approaches!

I recently rendered several hundred pounds of wheel weights along with some old purchased CWW ingots. It's a dirty chore, but I actually enjoy it. Melting stuff is fun! I generally work in my barn, just inside the door. There is plenty of ventilation; the old barn is nowhere close to airtight...

FN sues Ruger over trademark infringement

This rem8nds me of the old story of the two farmers arguing over ownership of a cow. Farmer Brown was pulling on the cows head, shouting Its mine! Farmer Jones was pulling on the cows tail, shouting Its mine! And the two attorneys in the middle, milking it.

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

Starlings and sparrows are both exempt from the law. Neither of the two are native, both invasive enough to have spread across the continent in just a few decades.

    What did you shoot today?

Took the 1941 Sako Finn M39 to the 300 yard line this morning. My load for a home cast 192 grain bullet runs at just under 1700fps, so a bit of trial and error was in order. I ended up with the issue sights at 800 yards, with a .002" feeler-guage shim tucked under there too, to get the...

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

My first 100 in competition. 100-6x at 200 yards, issue iron sights, "rack" issue condition. M96 Swede, a 1900 Oberndorf. Not bad for being in my 7th decade, and shooting a 120+ year-old rifle.

    PPC revolvers

I'm fairly certain I've posted this Bill Davis 10-5 here before - And a view of the hand work done back in the day; a hand-soldered trigger stop.

    Waiting Time for Suppressor Approval?

Is this a typo? Why celebrate more than a year for the approval? Or are you simply happy it finally came through?

Yesterday in the barn, AKA: melting stuff is fun!

I'm here to tell you, 80 pound sacks of concrete weight much, much more than they did 40 years ago. ;)

Yesterday in the barn, AKA: melting stuff is fun!

Well, it's a small town, and I spent a good deal of time cultivating a relationship with my former supplier. It's a dang shame they closed down. There are a couple other possible sources relatively nearby, and I have made initial, tentative forays into obtaining wheelweight from them...

How much forcing cone erosion is too much?

In my opinion that revolver needs to be re-barreled. If it were mine, I would, in this order: Send the pics to Ruger. They may agree to re-barrel it for a nominal fee. I don't know what the chances of retaining the accuracy would be. Or purchase a used barrel. What or one of the gun...
