Wood and Blued Steel 9mm Carbine? - Henry Homesteader

Normally I go for plastic fantastic, but I like the retro look that rifle has, and while the price point is steep, it's not ridiculous compared to similar offerings. Time to start saving pennies...

    Hi point carbines?

No regrets with mine. 1st gen, 995, shot a two inch group right out of the box, and was very reliable. Leave it as-is except maybe a scope or laser, and you'll be very happy.

Have you ever lost a gun but not in a boating accident? Or found one?

I've only lost one, a cheap .32 derringer I carried when I rode. Had it in one of those equally cheap generic nylon holsters and it wasn't there when I got where I was going. Only cost forty five bucks and some change, so I didn't cry too hard. Filled a report, got the stink eye from the cops...

    Clean your own guns?

Many moons ago, I bought a surplus Mauser from a pawn shop for deer season. Without the long story of why, when I got it, there were spider webs in the barrel and it was overall coated with grime and dirt. The owner wasn't big into firearms, he was more a tools and jewels seller, which was why I...

Chinese copy? I've seen some of their early 20th century work and it seems similar.

    There is Always One

I just like to think it's the universe's way of keeping me honest. From a year ago, stock Glock 17@50 feet.

    Your (informed) Opinions, please

Hopefully my DD-214 covers me here, but I got an RG-14 when I was in the reserves as a snake pistol, after seeing a bunch of the other guys with them. Lots of rattlers where we trained at and it hid pretty well under my BDU shirt. Found out .22 shot is pretty much worthless after ten feet, and...

So if you wanted to live in a van....

That's more RVing than van living. Van life is living in a regular van, not a rolling studio apartment. In my VW, I either slept on top of my storage bins or in a cheap hammock, and everything else was basically urban camping. Down by the river... literally! There were few places along the...

So if you wanted to live in a van....

Thinking further on this, I'd also urge you to invest as much thought in the concealment/security/accessibility. I hid my pistol more to keep it from being easily taken when I was away from my vehicle, didn't really consider accessing it quickly. That's why when that ruckus I mentioned happened...

So if you wanted to live in a van....

Probable cause can be stretched to the breaking point if need be and I could barely afford the bare minimum to keep my van legal. It was sort of the reason I was living that way in the first place.

So if you wanted to live in a van....

The only time I felt I needed one, the issue resolved itself before it became my problem. I felt my tire checker was more practical and less a liability than my pistol if there were issues and frankly, I was more safely storing it than keeping it handy while I was between addresses.

So if you wanted to live in a van....

I lived in a van for close to a year, so here's my two cents. First, due to the circumstances, guns were really pretty far down my list. Only had two, a Ruger Mk 1 and badly bubbaed Mauser in 7x57, which ended up getting sold for the necessities. One thing to consider is that the cops can pretty...

NY Banning AW possession under 21?

The saddest thing is that they won't bother enforcing this if it's a 'PoC' or other protected class within this state. This law is aimed squarely on one particular race and political class of citizen.

Have you ever hunted with OLD hunting ammo?

Back in'87, I got to fire a few .45LC dated 1888 (US issue packaging), all of them functioned perfectly at 99 years.

    Homemade shoot n see

Neon yellow spray paint, followed by a layer of clear, then a final top coat of black. Chip-Gard (sp.) works pretty good for that, but any type will do. Let each coat dry completely before the next.

    Adult Single Shot .22?

Crickett does make an adult-sized version, though I don't have experience with that model. I use the standard youth because when I hunt with mine, the short stock works better when I'm wearing a heavy coat.

I hope that the .30 Super catches on

If Hi-Point did chamber them for it, which I highly doubt because of the chamber pressure, it might indeed drive demand for the caliber. Had an old style that I sent to my sister, yes, they are good little rifles indeed. Ugly is as ugly does.
