SPEER Grand Slam Bullets - Is It Just Me?

The 165 gr GS in 30 cal has been very good in my .308 and 30-06. I am in Grandimals camp, IMR 4831 and 4350 under 2800 FPS perform for me extremely well. Granted my experience has been on deer only so I won’t speak on larger animals.

When in doubt, check again (loaded a potential squib)

Great catch. You’re sixth sense was working! I’ve used a double check system for a very long time and it has worked. Call me paranoid but sometimes I’ll check all the cases a third time. Better safe than sorry.

    Who likes maple?!

That’s very unique IMHO. I like it. Let us know how it shoots.

If you were going to buy a big bore lever action......

I’m seriously looking at the Henry .41 mag lever. It will make a fine companion to my .41 mag revolvers.

Best no-drill Scope mount for Ruger Super Blackhawk

Ks5shooter is correct, a Leupold M8-2x EER. I have the same in a silver finish. They are no longer in production, but mine has been flawless for 20+ years on a .357 and .41 mag.

    Ideas for Measuring Powder?

Either my floors aren't level or my reloading bench isn't. I use a 1"x 6" x 18" long board that I place shims under on one end to level it. Once it is level, I know my scale is level. FWIW and good luck.

    Weakness in eye dominance?

My son experienced something similar when he was shooting on a skeet team last year. Both of his eyes were dominant (at his age, 13, it's not an uncommon thing). We tried shooting left handed and right handed during some of his practice rounds, ultimately he scored better shooting right handed...

    Your LGS

My LGS is always competitive on gun prices. They always match a price, with transfers and taxes, and a lot of times will be lower. Reloading supplies can be a little higher across the board, but not much. It is worth the few dollars more to keep them in business to me. The box stores have really...

Working up field loads, both Factory and Handloads, for the RUGER 77/357.

I never thought about loading the 180 gr HDY in my Carbine or my Dan Wesson especially with Bullseye. Looking forward to your posts.

Working up field loads, both Factory and Handloads, for the RUGER 77/357.

Garandimal, This will be a very interesting thread to me. I will be following to see if you post any load information. I have a 77/357 that my son uses for deer. He has shot a couple of deer with the 158gr Hornady XTP (factory) and it has performed well. I’ve been wanting to handload for this...

Any .41 Mag loaders out there? Favorite powder and bullets

Another Unique and IMR4227 fan here as well. For a great fun, plinking or practice load 8.0 gr Unique with a 220 gr plated ( Ranier or Berry’s) bullet is accurate and offers very low recoil. For my hunting load 19.5 gr of IMR4227 with 210 gr Hornady XTP is my go to. Very accurate and recoil is...

Question about using a Ruger 10mm

I agree with MCGunner. A .41 mag may be something to consider, especially if you reload.

On the fence about buying this

IMHO you can never go wrong with a .41!

On the fence about buying this

Just a thought, for $50.00 you get a new gun with no wear and perhaps no problems. That would be my choice for FWIW.

    Powder and Primer storage

I store my primers in my safe, I store my powder in a locked steel cabinet ( older kids, but you never know about their friends ). I like the idea of them being separate. Both of these are in a controlled inside environment and both have ventilation. I have never had any issues with this storage...

What's your favorite type of loading on the bench?

I’m the opposite of your experience. I’ve loaded rifle cartridges for 20 plus years and have really just begun learning pistol and revolver cartridges. So far my favorite has been loading the .41 mag for hunting and target. The .357 would be right behind it though. My next step is to start...

    Tumbler Timer Trick

My corn cobb media serves me well. It always looks good after 2-4 hours. I never though about a timer. I think I’ll have to look into that.

    XDE is tough to shoot.

I have 2 of the XDE’s. I bought them for my wife and daughter, although my young teenage son shoots them well. They have about 3,000 rounds through both of them and they have never had a FTF or FTE. I think it was a good purchase for the intended use, SD for the ladies. It’s easily carried by...
