    Discuss the British .38-200 load; .38 S&W

The OP of the .455 Webley thread asked that we not pollute its purity by also discussing the .38-200 load that replaced the .455, beginning in 1929, although many .455's were still used in WWII. Due to German protests in 1938, the 200 grain .38 lead bullet was replaced by a 178 grain jacketed...

    Rate Machete Brands

If you have recent experience of machetes in the following brands, please tell us how you like them, the good and the bad. Tramontina, Imacasa, Condor, Corneta, Ontario. Have you ordered from Baryonyx (sp?) or other dealers? Were you pleased with the service? How soon did your order...

    Broomstick vs. ball bat

This comes right out of the TV news here this week. A camera showed a couple of guys who had an altercation in traffic. One attacked the other with a ball bat. The second man had a broom stick in his truck. I don't know why. He defended himself. TV didn't say who won. Looked like the bat man...

    A Win. M-70 Carbine?

A guy on another board who seems not to know rifles well says thta he has a Model 70 Winchester .308 marked as a Carbine. I posted, asking him for a photo and if the rifle has a Mannlicher/Stutzen stock and about a 19"barrel. So far, he hasn't replied. There was such a configuration in the...

    12 Ga. slugs vs. trucks

Does anyone here know how well a 12 ga. shotgun slug would fare if one had to shoot at the front of a pick-up truck or SUV? Would the slug pierce the radiator or engine block within 25 yards? A Nissan Pathfinder or similar Toyota or maybe a Ford F-100 would be typical. I'm guessing it'd be...

    Who really made my machete?

My 12 -inch bladed machete with a plastic handle has a decal on the blade that says the maker was Corneta, in El Salvador. Says to return to vendor if not good. But it uses the word, hoja, which I thought means "page" in Spanish"? " Si esta hoja no sale buena". What does "hoja" then mean...

First Battle Use of .30 US Carbine?

Does anyone really know when the little .30 US Carbine first saw any significant battle use? I don't think the Marines on Guadalcanal had any when they landed there in August, 1942. I think the troops invading North Africa in November of that year did have them. Anyone know when the little...

    CZ rifling twst rates?

I lost track of a topic where someone said that CZ barrels tend to have slow twists for the calibers. How slow? What twists do they use for .243, .270, and .30/06? I certainly want a 1-10" twist for the latter two. Haven't studied the .243 much.

    Damaged Buck Knives?

I've seen a couple of Bucks on the Net with broken blades and occasionally hear about others. When I can ask what caused the damage, it's almost always from trying to pound the edge through bone when dressihg a deer, etc. Heard of one that lost about a quarter inch broken off the tip when it...

    Modern crossbows

Look at the tang stamp on the large blades of older Victorinox and Wenger Swiss Army knives and you'll see a stylized image of the famed Wilhelm Tell's crossbow. He's the Swiss national hero, who killed an Austrian dictator with his crossbow. The guy who had to shoot an apple off of his son's...

Show Us Your Buck Models 119 and 120

Anyone got good, sharp pictures of your Buck knives in Models 119 and 120? Let us see 'em! And tell us if you've had any good adventures with them, or if they've just been good companions in camp and on the trail. I also like their Model 105.

    .32 Long Defense Loads

A friend has a S&W .32 Long revolver, a Hand Ejector from the 1950's. Does anyone know the velocity of the target wadcutter ammo in this caliber? Are Euro loads hotter? I've read that some fire .32 auto ammo in them, but hesitate to suggest using ammo for which the gun was never intended.

    Need Astra Cadix info

A South African member of another board inherited a .38 Astra Cadix with four-inch bbl. I told him I think I read that the grips can be slid back and forth a little to change the angle. They look like it in photos. Is that true, and how is it done? Can he just loosen the grip screw and...

    1875 Remington repros

Have any of you got and shot any of the Italian repros of the Remington 1875 revolver, or an original? I think I recall handling one and finding the hammer harder to reach than on the Colt SAA and that the grip didn't feel as natural in the hand. I think most originals were in .44...

Want Pics of Rigby, H&H, & Such Rifles

Anyone got pics of classic British hunting rifles, the sort of thing that wealthy hunters used in colonial Africa? Current examples? I think Rigby is now out of business? Mannlicher- Schonauer pics are also welcome! Or, custom US rifles. I'm tired of reading mainly about Russian...

    Beretta 950 .25

If you own a Beretta M-950 .25. can you post pics and tell us about the gun and how it shoots and whether you like it? Please describe accuracy as the longest range that you can reliably hit an apple or similar-sized object. Thanks, Lone Star

    Ruger LCP Trigger Pull

I haven't been able to try the trigger on an LCP. The shop that had one wouldn't remove a trigger lock. How hard is the DA-only trigger pull? Compare it to an S&W Chief's Special. revolver. I'm hoping that the Ruger .380 has a lighter trigger. Can an average girl usually work the trigger...

    Howa 1500 rifles

Does anyone have one? I traded for one with another item, and like it so far. Is this basically the same action used in the Weatherby Vanguard?

Shot sizes for woodcock & pheasant

If you had only a 12 ga. (M-870 Wingmaster) and wanted to shoot woodcock, would you use # 8 shot in target loads, or what? Sort of at the other end of the scale, do you like #6's for pheasant? At what range do you most often shoot pheasant? Thanks, Lone Star

One Shot Bear Kill, .44 Magnum

I get tired of people who post that a handgun is useless against a bear. Get the August issue of, "Sporting Classics" and read how a dentist in Alaska used a .44 Magnum (looks to be a stainless Super Blackhawk) to save himself and a pal from a bear that attacked them as they dressed out a...
