FN FiveSeven - a heck of a fun gun ...

For right now, the ammo is not out of reach for me - but I sure will be happy when the prices start to come down a bit.

FN FiveSeven - a heck of a fun gun ...

In August, I gave myself a retirement/birthday present and bought an FN FiveSeven. Due to competition with the Ruger 57, the price dropped significantly - down to $999 at my local gun shop, and I had never owned a FN quality firearm before - or a polymer pistol. I picked up thee more FN...

    CMP Releases more 1911 info

My thought is that a new Springfield Armory Mil-Spec is somewhere in the same ballpark (I think), and if I buy an SA and something is not working or breaks, it’s SA’s problem to fix. I also suspect that the SA is likely to shoot better and perhaps be more reliable. But I really don’t know much...

    CMP Releases more 1911 info

I guess that there is an element of chance here. I think that there - of my dad’s experience is normal - many, many of them may have been carried for many years, but perhaps not shot very often at all. The pitting sounds like it could be pretty nasty, but many of them may have never been shot in...

    New ATI HP9 - DA / SA, Turkish Hi-Power ?

Different strokes, as they say. As nice as my Turkish made Armalite 24 is, I would love to see a Turkish Hi Power clone with the same trigger as a classic Hi Power, but no magazine safety. There might not be enough of a market for such a weapon, but I would be sorely tempted. Thanks, Mike

    CMP Releases more 1911 info

I am a little puzzled over the allure of CMP 1911s. My father was a 20 year Navy officer - I think most of what he did was with a 1911 was hand it to the next watch. But he didn’t think very much of his service weapon. He found it pretty inaccurate to say the least. He was of the opinion that...

    New ATI HP9 - DA / SA, Turkish Hi-Power ?

I amn a little puzzled by the market for this gun. When I have contemplated buying a Hi Power, it’s precisely because it’s a classic SA design. An DA/SA variant seems like it avoids the essence of what is a Hi Power to me. Is the appeal of this gun that it’s a slimmer DA/SA? How does the...

Getting used to safeties that swipe up or down

You are correct - I was wrong.

Getting used to safeties that swipe up or down

That rule seems to work - the “down” position on the Armalite (and I think most CZ clones) is horizontal, and the psotion is at an angle. It looks like the Kilnic 200 Mega, the down postion is angled (disengaged), and the up psotion is horizontal. So in both cases, swiping away from horizontal...

Getting used to safeties that swipe up or down

If you look at hate picture in the “Photo Gallery” in your fist link, the safety is horizontal (in the up position), and the red dot is below the safety. On Armalite, and the pictures of CZs that I have seen, when the safety is in the horizontal (up) position, you cannot see a red dot. When the...

    KSD Grips website and company

I stumbled across the KSD grips website, and I was excited to see that they make walnut grips for the Armalite AR 24 Compact - I have a full size AR-24, and I haven’t found much in the way of grips for. I tried email them at address listed on the web site, and the email bounced. The seem to...

Getting used to safeties that swipe up or down

I have an Armalite 24 (a CZ 75 clone) and that weapon has a safety that you swipe down with your thumb to disengage the safety and swipe up to engage the safety. I was looking at that Sarsmilaz Kilnic 2000, which is pretty much the same weapon that Armalite imorted, but the safety works the...

Why the DA in an SA/DA pistol without a decocker?

When I posted the question, I did not realize that it would stir up so much acromony. But maybe I should have expected that because I remember Usenet days as well. I thank the people who responded before the pissing contest started - and those who did not play that game once it started. I...

Why the DA in an SA/DA pistol without a decocker?

Thanks. I thinking the Armalite AR 24 also has a bigger beaver tail and a heavier slide than the 75B, but I am not sure.

Why the DA in an SA/DA pistol without a decocker?

Except for the ability to strike the primer again if it doesn’t ignite, I think BSA makes the most sense to to me. I assume the trigger is excellent one the BSA? Better than the single action mode on the CZ 75B, beause there are fewer moving parts?

Why the DA in an SA/DA pistol without a decocker?

I guess that if people were used to a SA mode weapon, the idea of dropping the hammer on a round in the chamber would not be all that unusual. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but I guess on 1911 or an SA revolver like my Blackhawk, it was pretty normal to lower the hammer on a live...

I hadn’t thought of that, and it makes sense. Thanks

Why the DA in an SA/DA pistol without a decocker?

I have an Armalite 24, which a very nice CZ 75 interpretation. I use it almost exclusive for target shooting. I enjoy the pistol, but the fact that it has DA mode at all is a bit of a head scratcher to me. When I shoot, I load magazine, and rack the slide to load a round into the chamber...
