    S&W .500 Mag Shooting thread

I've long since got over shooting heavy recoiling, miserable, if not painful hand cannons. Assorted. 44 mag & hot .357's taught me much but these lessons didn't stop me from experiencing the 500 at first opportunity. A friend bought one and I took him up on the chance to shoot it. All I can say...

^^^^^^^^^ Thanks, that's more information than I had. Maybe others can narrow it down some more if I can get a good look at the dates on the butt.

I'D the year of this Iver top break 38...

New to antique revolvers and this site but not to shooting and reloading. I posted this question in the revolver forum, so here: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/date-the-iver-johnson-top-break-38.845828/ When was it made?

Date the Iver Johnson top break .38

Thanks. Since this my first antique revolver in 30 years of playing with guns, I was none the wiser about the latch pin. Without driving it out with a brass punch that I don't have access to right now I'd say you are correct. I agree the surface paint job is either that or Brownell's bake on...

What "floats your boat" when it comes to guns?

Never met a handgun I didn't like, just like some more than others. I've bought and traded a boatload of guns. My latest fetish has been polymer frame lightweights: 32 ACP, .380 & 9's. Overall the 1911 remains my favorite......in .45 ACP. Naturally.

    What did you shoot today?

First 5 shots of 2019. Went into 3 holes from this Iver Johnson top break .38 S&W. At 3 yards, 148gr cast wadcutter, a pinch of Bullseye (one measured grain). With a six o'clock hold on the blue dot it hits right to point of aim at 9 or 10 feet. The sub, sub velocity load was designed to afford...

Greetings fellow gun folk/gun nuts - take your pick. My 30 year long obsession with firearms began with bolt action Mausers and has morphed thru various self loading military rifles. Handguns are fun as well, with a particular tip of the hat to the 1911. Wheelguns make me smile, no need to...
