Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

I think a lot of shot placement has to do with the great trigger design of the 1911. The Glock takes a lot more trigger control to use effectively.

Are you going to shoot it at matches when you aren't carrying it?

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

Again though, there is no getting around that it is more difficult to carry a full sized 1911. As far as commander or officer models, I believe one of the reasons my 1911 is so accurate is due to the size. I haven't shot a smaller 1911 before, but the big gun is just well balanced. When I got...

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

I'm pretty sure I could do most anything to my steal monster and it would keep on functioning. I probably couldn't destroy the G10 grips if I tried. This gun will outlive me almost certainly. I'm a little more apprehensive about the life cycle of my polymer guns. I have put a lot of...

Glock 19 is best handgun ?

Your ammo is also just as important as your G19. Carry a good defensive round from Speer or Hornady. The FBI switched back to 9mm due to improvements in 9mm ballistics which are now on par with .40 S&W or better.

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

Let me state for the record that I have complete confidence in both guns. The Wilson just shoots better. It's more accurate for me. The trade off is greater weight, less ammo in my mags, and most difficult to conceal. That's the struggle. The Glock gets carried more because it's lighter and...

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

My G19 suppressed running 147 grain ball ammo occasionally fails to return to battery. I've never had it jam unsuppressed with any ammo. Low end 1911s will jam so I'm told. My Wilson hasn't jammed yet, but you pay a price for a properly fitted 1911. It's an old design with a lot of moving...

Glock 19 is best handgun ?

I'm waiting for the 7 inch barrel in .38 Super. All joking aside, a G19 was my first pistol, and I still carry it today. Glocks were the first guns to convince a lot of people that the semi's could be as reliable as their 38. Special or .357 Smith and Wesson revolver.

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

People say the 1911 will jam more than the Glock. I've seen both jam. If you take good care of your weapons and use the right ammo, you reduce your chances, but jam recovery is a skill that should be practiced with any weapon.

Whatever you pick, be sure it matches your Holland and Holland double rifle.

These are all great points. Keep them coming. As far as how much is my life worth, let me ask my wife, and I'll get back to you.

Glock 19 is best handgun ?

You could always follow the Army's example and go with the cheaper bid: the P320.

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

It's interesting at the range I go to which "range guns" get checked out the most. The Desert Eagle in .50AE is always in demand. I've never seen it carried though.

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

That's an excellent point. Anything you have to use is going to be in evidence for your self-defense case. G19's are almost throwaway guns compared to high dollar 1911s.

.380: Is it really that bad?

I carry a .380 when no other option will work given the circumstances of what I'm doing and wearing. I would say it's WAY better than nothing. I certainly wouldn't want to get shot with even a .22LR. They bounce around without an exit wound.

Dream 1911, Glockettes need not reply

If you won the lottery, then you can afford all the expensive ammo as well. This Dan Wesson double stack in 10mm is pretty nice. I love my .45 ACP Wilson Combat, and you might possibly pick up an STI in .38 super. https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/elite-series-titan/

Glock 19 is best handgun ?

It's best at what it does: a light well-rounded weapon that always goes BANG. There are other comparable options out there now, but Glock was first.

Are expensive 1911's range toys or serious CCW guns?

Hello All, There are really only two pistol designs that I have consistently carried. For the last decade, I've carried a gun that is light, easy to conceal, easy to carry, easy to clean, and always goes bang. It carries 15+1, has low tolerances, and is cheap to run. Parts for it are...
