Has anyone tried the cast RCBS 170-FN gas check with 3031? If so, how much and was it worth a darn. Thanks, Andy

Primer residue = magic cancer dust?

Well stated Fred. I don't have as many rounds reloaded or shot under my belt yet, however, (as stated in my previous post) I seriously doubt that the minute amounts that we are exposed to are capable of any damage. Didn't know about the "other side" trying to use this arguement to close...

Primer residue = magic cancer dust?

Primer residue typically contains lead styphnate, barium nitrate, and antimony sulfide compounds. The first two have been linked to cancer in rats, however, only if inhaled in extraordinarily large quantities/concentrations. I seriously doubt the small amount of gunshot/primer residue that we...

    Steven's Expert Model?

I've been reading a book about Harvey Donaldson, and in the book he states that his first real rifle (the one that got him into shooting) was a single shot Steven's Expert model in 22 lr. I've been doing a little research and cannot find a Steven's Expert Model anywhere. I know that Steven's...

    ruger redhawk + cast lead

I own a 44 redhawk as well. It shoots Penn cast bullets .431 better than I can aim!

    noob ? about lead bullets

I would definately not shoot any cast bullet without lube. It is just not worth it. That's not to say that I haven't done it before, but the leading was so bad in the barrel that you couldn't hit anything at 25 yds. after a 8-10 rounds being fired. Takes all the fun out of it. Plus, that...

    New Ruger Rifles?

I own several old m77's and have also fired the new hawkeye. The trigger pull is much, much, much better and a very welcome improvement. Some of the trigger pulls on the old m77's are incredibly stiff, and have always been my biggest complaint. I'm right behind you in purchasing one.

    care of an old rifle

Hi All, I recently bought an old Winchester 1894 made in 1902. It has factory double set trigger, checkering, and 3X wood with winchesters Fancy oil finish. It's absolutely beautiful. I've never owned a firearm like this, and I'm wondering on how best to care for it, especially the wood...

    17 honeybee

I don't think its either of the rounds you mentioned. I first learned of this round on Bullberry's website. They chamber barrels for the 17 Honeybee, as well as the 17 Hornet and the 17 bee. Over the last few days I haven't been able to find anything on the net, aside from a few other threads...

State senate bill 2426 passes in Mississippi!

Just wanted to pass along some good news. Mississippi senate bill 2426 passed and will become law effective July 1st, 2006. This is the same bill as other "castle doctrine" or carjacker laws in other states. It now gives the right of a home or car owner to shoot a perp if they are trying to...

What kind of ammo do you use with your CCW?

60 gr. gold dots in my 32 Seecamp. Come rain, come shine, you'll find it in my back pocket.

So, how old is your carry gun?

My Seecamp 32 is coming up on 4 years now. Looks like a wallet in my back pocket. Wouldn't leave home without it. So I guess I'd put it in the comfortably broken-in category.

    I am impressed with Sierra...

Yet another Sierra fan here too. My pride and joy is my 219 Donaldson Wasp. I feel like I've tried every 45-50gr bullet on the market. Nothing shoots better in it than the .224 50gr Blitzking. At 100 yards it will shoot a five shot group "in the threes" any day of the week. If I was a...

    Best 45 auto powders

Thanks for the replys so far. I could have been more specific. Looking to develop a load for 230 gr. jhp in a 1911. I've heard a lot about Universal, and I'm a little curious that no one has mentioned it yet. Any experience with Universal out there?
