Reloading smokless cartridges with Pyrodex or Black Powder?

It's been a few years since I posted here, but I followed a link over from another site. I got into black powder cartridge reloading a few years ago, mainly because I am a single shot collector, and a good Sharps is one Holy Grail of single shots. Black powder won't match smokeless velocities...

7.62x25 in a new gun? Would you buy it?

Quote: k9870 wondering, how easy would it be to convert a 32-20 levergun to a 762x25 repeater,, as some may know, i really, really want a 762 rifle That would, I believe, be the same as a .218 Bee - and Marlin has made some of those in the past 10 years or so...

Chrome Silicon Wire..... the future of gunsprings!?

interesting thread...it appears to have risen from the ashes :) I have noticed the Wolff spring take a set on first cycling, which tells me they aren't preset. rsilvers' Calculations agree with that scenario, as the stress at 60% will mean taking a set when it is first compressed to solid...

What is the purpose of .400 Corbon?

I have a Safari Arms .40 CB barrel I fitted to a Colt 1991A1. It does work okay - but a couple of caveats: 1. Make sure you have the ammo with small primer pockets, or else you can expect blown primers. Cor-Bon has some useful notes on their website. 2. If you reload, make damn sure...

    I want an Un-Commander

Colt's CCO model is indeed an Officer's frame with Commander slide. There were a couple of different variations, neither of which are very common, and neither of which are approved in CA. You might find some other makes who had similar variants, but I don't know who they'd be offhand. The...

What caliber/ model Rem 700 for deer AND coyotes

I'm assuming you're planning to sell the hides, otherwise just blast Wile E. with your favorite deer rifle. A fur hunter I knew preferred the .220 Swift above all others for the best combo of killing power and minimal fur damage. To factor in deer, I'd say .243 through .25-06 would be my...

semi 44 mag carbines -- any other than Ruger?

I can't think of any other semi auto carbines in .44, either. What I have noticed about Ruger Minis and an early .44 carbine was the slick plastic buttplate made accuracy much worse. Try one of the replacements stocks with a rubber butt, or adhesive backed rubber on the buttplate. I think...

Assorted Qs about USFA single actions

I have read the USFA cylinder is slightly (.015" or so) larger than the Colt, to give a bit more safety. I still wouldn't shoot Ruger loads in it, but If you handload up to 900-1000 fps in the .45, it should not be a problem. The originals worked fine with steels that were inferior to today's...

Colt New Service target sights? Shooting Master?

Thanks for the excellent photo. I had handled a SM a few years ago, and you jogged my memory. This gun is not one of them, but rather a modified New Service. I'll go look again, and I may just buy it even thought the finish is worn. The rear sight is a puzzlement, it's not any S&W sight I've...

Colt New Service target sights? Shooting Master?

I saw one of these fine old Colts today, with an unusual rear sight. It appeared to be a adjustable sight, in the style of a S&W revolver sight, but it was not a S&W. There was a thin line of checkering on the top strap, on both sides of the counter-sunk-in sight body. The trigger was checkered...

Drop dead, undeniably gorgeous. What goes with it?

well, I still have the wood. I'm thinking a Cooper Arms Varminter in .221 Fireball - have to call them and see if they'll use a customer-supplied stock :)

Had to shoot a home invader last night.

You do realize of course, the other rodents were sitting outside in the dark, watching the daredevil rat enter the House of Certain Death, and calling him an idiot for his stupidity. After his death they undoubtedly voted him a Rodentia Darwin Award.

The Rifle of Course! - FORBES POLL

The knife WAS the first tool man made, aside from sticks or stone hammers, that caused early man to control his environment and start learning to use other tools. I think the plow is another pretty good argument, because agriculture probably had a greater influence on groups of people organizing...

    Anyone use 400 CorBon?

I have a .400 CB barrel fitted to a Colt 1991A1...the cartridge works okay, but handloading it is a whole different proposition. It is very difficult to get the bullets seated tightly enough that they don't setback during feeding. Setback = Kb, of course. With a lot of work I was able to get...

    Woodsman Match Target versus....

I have found a decent Colt Woodsman Match target, about 1960's vintage, which is a "shooter" - enough wear to take it out of "collector" status, at a price of $500 or so. I'm thinking of getting it for casual target shooting. For those with experience, how does the WMT compare to similar .22...

Talk me into a caliber! (.204 vs .22-250 vs .243)

I once had a buddy who swore by the .22-250. Get a few beers into him, though, and he'd admit to losing a few - and he never took shots past 100-125 yards or so. He now uses a .25-06. Of the choices, you need a .243, and with 100 grain bullets, I might add.

Why are there no 10mm single stack compact CCW's?

heresy I know, but.... Colt also made some .40 cal Double Eagle Commanders. Did they make .40 Commanders? Probably :)

Why are there no 10mm single stack compact CCW's?

Colt did make a few .40 cal Defenders. Got a 10mm reamer?
