    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Second range session for the Long Ranger today, this time shooting 223. Put about 90 rounds down range at 50 and 100 yards. Kind of surprised no real adjustments needed from the 556. In any event the gun and scope combo is much more accurate than I am. More importantly for me is that I am...

    Remington model 12

I see what you mean. For instance on my takedown BLR (sold it to fund my Long Ranger) the scope mount was installed on the barrel assembly and used a scope with a lot of eye relief....scout style. How have you seen 121s setup for scopes.

    Not what I intended

My wife is a cheaper gun shop date. Usually only cost me a charm or earrings. What lever is that?

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

I will say shooting the Long Ranger was a pleasure. Probably shot 10 magazines this afternoon and no worse for the wear, unlike shooting its predecessor the blr in 30-06. I had a couple of rimfires in the mix as well. My bore sighting effort was OK. At 25 yards I was right about 4 inches. I may...

    Remington model 12

Did get to take the model 12 out this afternoon. What a hoot to shoot. It was accompanied by my new Long Ranger in 223 and my Cz MTR. The scope was a tad off, but with a little tweaking it was dead on at 25 and 50 yards. At a 100 was scattering a little more but all were in the general vicinity.

    Remington model 12

just ordered a reproduction service manual for it. contemplating the scope. it has the factory sights on it, but guessing the previous owner had to tap and drill the gun for scope mounts. kind of like the idea of back to original, but might be fun with the little scope. do have a higher quality...

    Remington model 12

a coworker mentioned a really nice Browning 22 lever gun was spotted at a local pawn shop. He was right. But I walked out with a Remington model 12. It's kind of beat up, has a Simmons scope, was made in 1931. Not a gallery gun. My first pump action rifle. Cost me about $350 plus a pendant for...

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Had to look up the Express Model. Kind of interesting. Might would have considered it. The express has a 16.5 inch barrel vs the standard 20 on my new acquisition. That shorter barrel is also threaded and it appears the furniture is more durable. Like the classic styling of mine and 20 inch...

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Menard, in this case, is a central Texas town south of Eden, about 90 miles away from my home. Gun shop and its proprietor was a joy to visit. Walked out with the Long Ranger and a Sig Sauer Whiskey River 3 3x9-40 scope, a little bit of ammo, a leather sling, some mounts and a scope for $1400...

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Won't know until this afternoon when I make the drive to Menard to possibly purchase it. The store/operator is a "gold" dealer for Henry and I am told his selection is substantial for a store in the middle of nowhere.

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

I have ran across magazines for the Long Ranger. Definitely will be adding a sling and likely optics as I don't know if it will have iron sights. Even, then my eyes won't give me a lot of accuracy at 100 yards with irons. Co-worker suggested trying a red dot. Not sure that would be my route, but...

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

To answer one of the responders, the limited magazine capacity is fine. If that were an issue, I might be considering Ruger's American in 556/223 as it accepts AR mags (which I think is pretty cool and the gun sells for about half of the Long Ranger). This gun is an addition to my small...

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Kind of curious as to how much kick you have with the 243 as compared to say an AR15. I would guess the 243 has more kick.

    Henry Long Ranger in 556

Considering replacing my Browning, take-down 30-06 BLR and thinking seriously about getting a Henry Long Ranger in 556/223. Kind of like having a rifle that uses ammo that I already accumulate and the .223 is very appealing in terms of a lighter kicking option. Found one, new, a few miles from...

    Browning Hi-Power becomes a BLR

I am using the scout rail sold by Browning for my model and my objective lense is 32mm and just barely clears the barrel (think the lense cap barely fits). I can't imagine that accuracy you are talking about with this scope and my eyes, except at maybe 50 yards. Still, good to read what our guns...

    Browning Hi-Power becomes a BLR

Thanks for the suggestion and enjoy your BLR. I started searching for reduced recoil 30-06 ammo and see there are some options.

    Browning Hi-Power becomes a BLR

My hunting is very limited. Very limited. This setup is not a reasonable option for plinking in my mind. However, after a friend showed me the right way to cook backstrap, might have to rethink my hunting. Just not sure I would be using this 30-06 on our little Texas Hill Country deer. My Marlin...

    Experiences with the LEE ACP?

I use the Breech Lock Pro (pro 4000) and the classic turret. I know when I deprime in bulk ahead of time, instead of on the progressive, things seem to run smoother. I have simply removed the crimp die and the index rod and used the progressive to deprime.
