new AR15, failure to feed issues

It's failing to extract the spent round, as in the photo. I'll take a close look at the extractors on the two BCGs I have (one works fine, the other doesn't) and see if I can see any difference.

new AR15, failure to feed issues

I don't have a photo from my rifle, but it looks pretty much like the image below that I found online. The new round feeding in gets bent and has to be discarded.

new AR15, failure to feed issues

Quick update. After a long break from shooting the AR, I finally made it back to the range. I'd replaced the extractor spring with this one: https://www.brownells.com/aspx/search/productdetail.aspx?sid=10818&pid=4840 But immediately had FTE with the WWB ammo, and other brands worked fine...

new AR15, failure to feed issues

@MistWolf I'm curious what led you to suspect the extractor! I went back to the range today with the same ammo, same magazines (now numbered), and freshly cleaned and lubed rifle. I was able to reproduce the failure half a dozen times, and indeed the problem is failure to extract. After...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I ordered a SecureIt Agile 52 Plus gun locker since they're having a good sale (in advance of moving distribution sites).

    Any recent approvals?

My first two silencers were both ordered in early Aug'20, checks cashed 9/8/20 and 10/21/20, and both stamps came back at end of June'21 (10 1/2 months after purchase). I'm curious whether the process is a little faster once you're been through the system.

    What do you carry?

Although I have my permit I've never carried a handgun. I do carry pepper spray and a knife when I'm out hiking.

new AR15, failure to feed issues

Is the idea that if the bolt isn't locking back on an empty mag then there's a problem with cycling, which could be due to the ammo? The gun was locking back fine on empty mags, and the instructors did suspect the problem could be with one of the mags. But I didn't have my mags numbered and...

new AR15, failure to feed issues

I'll mark my mags (should've done it before the class) and re-test. On a positive note, I did get a lot of practice clearing failures. ;)

new AR15, failure to feed issues

I have a new 16" AR15 (BG Defense Type-A) rifle. It ran fine the first two trips to the range and during an intro AR class (~140 rounds total), but last night I had a dozen or so failure-to-feed malfunctions over ~120 rounds during a second class. The gun would fire and start to feed a new...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I bought a SecureIt Fastbox 47 a while back but just got around to installing it in a closet. I'm happy with it, like the quality. I do wish it were 2" wider, but they sized it to fit under most beds. I also want to add some sort of LED lighting inside. Almost impossible to see a black rifle...

    What did you shoot today?

I test fired my first AR15 build, a pistol in 300 blackout. It has an adjustable gas block in anticipation of adding a suppressor. I started at the most restricted setting and the gun fired a single round fine but didn't lock back on an empty magazine. I opened the gas until it would lock...

    first AR15 build

Yesterday I posted some thoughts on tools I used during my first AR15 build, but I want to also post some thoughts and photos about the build itself. The tools thread is here: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/thoughts-on-tools-after-first-ar15-build.892161/ Since I recently bought...

thoughts on TOOLS after first AR15 build

It's a slick tool (I bought one and used it), but I have to say I wasn't able to start the bolt catch pin using this (probably spent 20 minutes trying). The problem was that the pin was loose in the hole in the end of the tool, and the tool is pretty short so it was hard to connect with it...

    AR 15 style rifle advice

I recommend this as well. I went down the same path as OP last year and bought a 9mm AR-style pistol. It didn't quite scratch the AR15 itch and I ended up buying a 16" rifle.

thoughts on TOOLS after first AR15 build

One big difference is that I was able to do most of the work at my desk in the comfort of A/C. Only needed to go in the sweltering workshop for a couple of steps that required the bench vice.

thoughts on TOOLS after first AR15 build

I recently built my first AR15 (pistol, 300blk) and I thought I'd post a few thoughts about tools I used during the build. My goal was to have the full experience of building an AR15, so I'll say upfront that I wasn't trying to scrimp on parts or tools. I found the following link helpful when...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

Due to backorders and a desire to finish my first AR15 build, I ended up buying three triggers. The ELF SOCOM service trigger arrived first and that's what I used to finish the build. I'm looking forward to comparing with the LaRue MBT-2S that arrived earlier this week, and the Triggertech...

    AR red dot

I've been shopping for a red dot lately and came across several references to holographic sights working better than red dots for folks with astigmatism. No idea whether that applies to your dad (or even whether the claims are true), but here's a link for example...
