Box o' guns that need context.

Another update: the savage 24b 22 over 410. The shotgun firing pin is present, rifle pin is not. Don't know why not, seeing as both retraining screws were still there. Also the selector is broken. Otherwise it seems fairly mechanically sound and the rust isn't too bad.

It feels too thick to me surface rust, but its hard for me personally to tell. Is there a way to check?

Box o' guns that need context.

From what I've found, the 62a could be worth a few hundred dollars depending on condition, is it safe to remove the rust from the receiver and barrel or will that damage the value?

It looks like they are in fact missing, that's why I included that picture.

Okay thanks the input thus far folks, I am reading all of your comments, haven't forgotten about you haha. Work has just been busier lately plus I'm doing some online classes, time sensitive unfortunately. Tonight I intend to give them a quick wipe down with a cleaning rag and then an oily rag...

Box o' guns that need context.

I'll see if I can get some pictures uploaded after some basic cleaning. I'll try to avoid removing any 'character' including rust for now, despite the screaming gun-care ocd my head. After that I'll also be able to tell you all if there are any malfunctions mechanically or if there are any...

Box o' guns that need context.

Hello friends, I have a challenge for you. My FIL has a box of older rifles/shotguns that he let me take a look at, he wants to know if he has anything unique. I was able to identify the model numbers on all but one, and price (tentatively) most of them, but i was hoping the scholars and...

    Old stevens stock bolt help

I did find that, but right now numrich is several months out on orders. I was hoping for something a bit sooner (which good news). My dad is in his seventies right now with parkinsons, and with a virus that is apparently targeting people just like that spreading, i... yeah. The good news: I...

    Old stevens stock bolt help

Hello friends, I hope you're all having a great day and all staying safe. I was hoping to tap into the collective knowledge of you all to help solve a predicament in which I find myself stuck. My father had an old stevens 124A cross bolt shotgun that was broken in two from the day he got it...

    Curious about barrel temperature tolerances

I've always done just that. My grandpa taught me early on that I shouldn't shoot a hot barrel. I use the cool down time to check my targets, do some math, repaint any gongs, etc. Mostly this question was because I have never heard of anyone retempering a barrel after stuff like (mentioned...

    Curious about barrel temperature tolerances

700F is the mark then? That's about 360 C iirc? What is the desoldering point? And you say it gets weaker before that, about when does it start permanently (without a complete retempering) softening the metal?

    Curious about barrel temperature tolerances

This will be my first post here, and i truly how I'm not asking a stupid question or one that's already been asked a thousand times (I couldn't find anything with multiple searches but hey). I am curious, what is the temperature threshold at which rifle barrels are ruined? I've seen people...
