    Making .44 Zombie Loads

I'll be making up some Zombie loads (multiple round ball) for .44 special, and thought I'd share _my own_ technique. I'm using Hornady .433 round balls, which when measured are from .426 to about .437 on the same specimen. Reason being they are rather coarsely "formed" from cast. You can...

one more question concerning "taper crimp"

Most 9mm bullets have no crimping groove (cannelure). So what is a crimping die of any sort doing? At minimum, its removing the bell you created in order to easily seat the bullet. At most it is also restoring the .010ish taper of the case for more reliable feeding. The proof is in the...

Brazing on a Remington Model 11 - Still good to use?

Yes, as the lockup is at the bolt, but... watch that spot regularly. Worst case, another barrel, not cheap, but not the worst of the worst

    Famous guns auctioned off.

For a while, I knew the man who bought Jack Ruby's gun that he used to kill Oswald. I worked on it several times, mostly to get squibs out of the barrel. Jeeze the writing on that thing... seemed like every little corner had some property clerks mark engraved into it. He also had J.Edgar...

    Smallest handgun you’ve owned

Little Freedom Arms made in 22 short, with a very short barrel. I don't think they made those very long. Later I got a 22/22mag with a barrel that was maybe 50 percent longer (was it an inch, or inch and a quarter?). Not really too much fun to shoot, for me at least, and both went toward...

    Longish Range Handgun

Not your caliber/cartridge choice, but.... back in the late 1980's, my buddy and conjured up the thought of some "bench rest" pistols. This came about though my finding a Beretta Model 76, that was in nice shape, except for its barrel shroud. Those shrouds were aluminum, really didn't do much...

    Fake RCBS press warning

He goes off on his own. I'm in my 7th decade of life, he's in his 3rd. Before he knew that I knew just a little bit, his first 9mm was a HiPoint. He's prone to shopping price, not doing his homework.

    Fake RCBS press warning

Say it ain't so Joe! I rely on Square-D a lot, but I get it from GrayBar. (time passes as I browse to find out more). Jeeze, damn near a half million 350,000+ from one distributor alone... and those "entered the sales channel" including to major local suppliers. Gulp.

    Fake RCBS press warning

I don't know about the shipping, but I think he paid $150 for it, $155... something like that. I didn't see, or look for the listing, but I can ask Monday what he paid

    Fake RCBS press warning

I'd do that, but its his thing, not mine. I'm not sure if he was determined to make it work or was going to return it.

    Fake RCBS press warning

I didn't weigh things, but I don't think it was more than 5lbs at most. After I wrote that post above, I went to my favorite online places to buy reloading gear and nobody has anything much in presses at all, let alone RCBS. I'm sure there are some out there, but RCBS themselves is more or...

    Fake RCBS press warning

I seem to be full of "warnings" these days, maybe a sign of the times I've coached a co-worker through his new gun lust. He's a 9mm devotee, but also wants to shoot some rifle (which he doesn't own yet). At any rate, I got the heads up yesterday that his new reloading press, a Rock Chucker...

Pistol Barrel Cleaning - Gray Haze

Cant say for Glock, but Kahr have nickel plating on the whole barrel, inside n out. When you shoot them you get a grey, hazy, sometimes lumpy film inside. Just keep on shootin and you will shoot it out. Takes 400-500 rounds though

Advice on a good quality press?

Seriously, RCBS will make that Summit right, maybe not so quickly in these pandemic days though.

    Winchester 1892.... firing pin broke.

As it stands the rifle is officially "unfired". I mean... sure, they're all fired at the factory, but folks tend to dismiss that. So to have an unfired rifle, that perhaps I'd want to sell... better to keep it unfired. I know the firing pin works, so that's not really an issue at this point...

    Winchester 1892.... firing pin broke.

I thought I'd bring this little saga full circle, since I got the rifle back today. First, let me commend Browning/Winchester for doing very clean work. No scratches, dents, bubba'd screwheads, it all just looks as it should for a new rifle. Second, let me commend them too, for actually...

    Winchester 1892.... firing pin broke.

Got it back, finally. Cant open the box, it was shipped to my workplace. More to come. I guess they made their 6-12 week window ok too.

Porting: Why do people hate them?

I never got much noticable change after porting. Not really worth it to me, however, our shop ported many customers guns. I ported a .45 Commander and its slide. Ended up grinding splines on the end of tje barrel to fo give lead and bullet lube a way out. And it worked great!

From That Other German Gunmaker - The Walther PPQ

I owned a PPQ-45, and it was a love hate relationship. It shot great. I had exactly one stoppage, on round count #2, which at #2, it remained memorable. After that for about 400 rounds or so, no issues. I did get a new recoil spring from Walther when they redesigned it, at it was stronger...
