    2400 loads in between 38spl and 357mag

I don't think I would push a plated bullet that fast in a Model 13. I know they can take +P. If I am 'all wet', so be it? I have a 15-5 that I have taken up to 900 fps with a 150 grain lead swc. hc18flyer

    Favorite 7mm?

In the 1980's I was reading a lot of hunting mags. I came across a Ruger M77 in .280, absolutely couldn`t go on living without it. It shoots fine, nothing spectacular with handloads. But I think now, a 7-08 would have been a better overall choice. That said, I still drool over a M70 in 7 x 57...

    Timing: Bad, or maybe not.

Best wishes for your recovery! I had my prostate removed roboticly 8 years ago, no further problems. This February I had to have 3 vertebrae fused in my back. Back has healed but nerve problems remain in my feet! All we can do is to keep swinging, and make the best of It! I have had 2...

    Tree stand lifespan

If it is steel and the paint is intact, it should be fine. Check the feet for rust, and inspect it carefully. I replace my ratchet straps every couple of years. Quality of construction, height, bracing, and how much stress you put on it all come in to play. Play it safe! hc18flyer

.38 Special- light target loads. Poll........

I was able to find Accurate #2 a few weeks ago(should have bought more), really like it and Clays for .38 Special target loads. AA #2 meters nicely in my powder measures too. hc18flyer

Better beam scale? Especially for light charges?

I was convinced I needed and could trust a digital scale, so I sold my balance beam. Over a couple years I tried and sold 3 smaller digitals, they didn't to maintain zero and 'bounce around' too much for my trust. So I went back to a beam scale. I also had problems seeing the needle, so I...

Do you actually use the best most optimal firearm/cartridge you have access to when hunting?

I have multiple rifles very capable of taking Whitetails. Many times I have more rifle, bullet, and powder combinations I want to try, then opportunities. For the past 2 years I have wanted to use my Henry SS in .357 Max, with a 180 grain wfn bullet. Our deer population is way down due to...

    Lpvo for 45-70 hunting rifle?

On my similar setup I went with a good used Leupold 4x Compact, for $225. I would love to have a bdc reticle, but this very useful in my situation. It also keeps the rifle very compact. hc18flyer

What muzzleloader are you running this year.

Our muzzleloader season in Nebraska is the entire month of December. I will use my trusty TC New Englander in .50 caliber. I use holy black and like the Hornady PA ball-ets. My shots are within 40 yards. Looking forward to camping in the timber along the river with friends and family. hc18flyer

Cast lead hollow points for deer

I am casting for my Henry single shot .357 Maximum rifle. A couple of years ago I was sure I needed a hp. After 2 years of reading and shooting the rifle, I have settled on using a 180 grain, gas checked wfn, and softer alloy. I can get to 1900 fps. My alloy is 11.5 bhn. I may get a little...

    safe on a concrete floor

I made a 4" tall 'riser. The top mates directly to the base of the safe bolts. The bottom has spots for 8 concrete anchors on the inside, inaccessible to thieves. Riser will help in case of a water leak too.

    Handgun hunting

I have only one buck with a handgun. My choice is a large frame 7.5" Blackhawk in .45 Colt. I used the .45-270 SAA bullet over 17.5 -Alliant 2400, runs about 1050 fps in my revolver. Soft shooting and plenty accurate past 50 yards, my personal max shot. I put on a Burris Fast Fire 3 for hunting...

Does anyone else use Case length gauge??

I use the Wilson case gauges to adjust my sizing die. I am loading for different Yugo 8 x 57 rifles, and one has a much smaller chamber. I find them handy to help sort bottle neck brass and double check loaded rounds too. hc18flyer

    Tell me I was right

I am green with envy! I would happily go to jail for stealing that 'pre 14', it would be worth it!

    RDS for Deer Hunting

I put a Burris FF3 on my .45 Colt Blackhawk. One for one on Whitetail bucks, will be using it again this year. I have a short mount drilled and tapped in front of my rear sight, FF comes off and I can use my irons. Some day I will try an Ultra dot, but for the limited hunting I do, the Burris is...

    Waiting for a S&W 15-2

I recently purchased my first S & W, a 15-5. It is super sweet shooting, I will struggle to pick up one of my others! My Grandson doesn't let me shoot it often enough! Yes, it was worth the wait, hc18flyer

    1st Revolver

My 2nd revolver is a 15-5 , .38 Special with a 4" barrel. Some friends and I shot it on Sunday am. I had to make sure it was in my gun bag when they left! I wanted a 'shooter, and field carry, rather than to conceal carry. I thought it was the best option for me. PS- 1st revolver was a Ruger...

    shooting steel targets

I tried the belting, didn't get the 'ring'I wanted. Now we use a 3/8" x 2" angle iron to deflect the bullet away from the chain. I usually weld the angle to a top link, so the target can swing, with the chain behind the angle. hc18flyer
