    25-06 and whitetails?

What litman said. I have used every make bullet from 100 to 120 grain. They all work great. Currently using 100 grain Hornady at 3300+. Accurate and hurts things bad.

    Accuracy with CZ 6.5x55

About the same. Maybe get down to .7, but most a hair under 1". Reloads

How hard is it to modify a Remington 700?

Stock design makes a big difference. I cannot shoot a Remington design stock much without recoil bothering me. Even my .25-06 would bother me, aand I regularly shoot .300 Win Mag, and .35 Whelen in other makes. While not cheap, a different stock may solve your problems. Talk to a good gunsmith...

Looking to get a first rifle

Ebay, if you are careful, has Burris FFII 3-9 scopes for $150. May be able to get a bid on a Bushnell 3200 in that price range also. I personally have had good fortune with Swift scopes, but they seem to have gone up in price considerably recently.

Recommendation on a new deer rifle for a beginner

I would look seriously at the Howa/Vanguard. WalMart at some locations has the Vanguard on sale for $325. Try to beat that with anything! Savage makes a great shooting ugly rifle. Stay away from the Remington 710/770 as they aren't too highly thought of. Most any caliber from .25 up will serve...

    Why do rifles do this?

Likely slight cant or scope not quite level. Scope would tend to move group up or down as well as to one side, so probably just the way you hold the rifle.

    6.5x55 and a 1:9 barrel

I suspect the 9" twist will work fine for any of the lighter bullets. The faster twist is needed to stabilie the long/heavy bullets. A .25-06 with a 10" twist works fine with bullets as light as 67 grains, so the 6.5 should do as well.

Tell me more about the 6.5x55....

Use mine for hunting. In a modern rifle, you can get right at .25-06 velocities with equal bullet weights (120 grain @ 3000+). Comes very close to .270 velocities with equal bullet weights (129-130 grain @2950+/-) . Uses less powder to do it, and all else being equal, has less recoil. Bullets...

Favorite sub-.30 caliber rifle cartridges for White Tail Deer

I had a .243. Nothing wrong with it, just didn't care for it. Recoil is mild, and lots of people try to lessen it even more by using lighter bullets. BAD move! I have used a .25-06 since 1972, It kills deer with shots I would be afraid of with the .243. Recoil is quick, but not necessarily...

    Tikka and CZ 6.5x55

I have a CZ American. Fit and finish-very good, trigger-excellent, accuracy-extremely good. Mine is a few years old, and I understand that they have reworked the stock a little. It feels good, but is a hair thick in the stock (I prefer the Ruger 77 feel). Haven't shot anything haevier than 129...

    Remmie model 798

I don't own one, but my understanding is that this is the same action as the old Charles Daly Mauser. They do not have the best reputation for quality. I would definitely want to see the one I was buying in person before writing the check. I have a CZ in 6.5x55 and hope to get one in .30-06 if...

    Weatherby Vanguard Non-Sub MOA

Those WalMart models say that they are a Lipsey special model. That is the company that brings out a special Ruger every year. This year it is a stainless international in 6.5x55 or 7x57. Not sure what all else they have "special" made.

    Swift brand optics?

Swift makes a nice scope. Optics are nice and sharp. I have owned/own 6 or 7 over the years. They are not in the category of upper end scopes, but for the money, I believe they are a decent value. There is a glut of newer manufacturers lately, and it is hard to choose a quality product...

    hunting rifles for wyoming

Don't you mean CZ 550? Anyway, that and the .308 should handle your needs. Just mount a quality scope on the .308 and go hunting.

    CZ 6.5x55 Swede

I have a 550 American in 6.5. Handloads with 120-130 grain bullets are boring - everything I have tried went into an inch or less. have several loads worked up with the 129 Hornady right now. Will let you know how they shoot when it cools off enough to get out. You will like the gun!!

Does anyone here hunt Deer with a 25-06?

Whole family uses the .25-06 2ith great results. I use 115-120 grain bullets (Nosler Partition or Hornady). Dad uses 100 grain Nosler Partition, brother shoots 100 grain Hornady in an improved .25-06. Between us, we have probably killed 35 or so Antelope, and at least as many deer. You shouldn't...

Rem 700 trigger - adjust or aftermarket?

Kepplinger make a single set trigger that might give you the best of both worlds. Brownell's carries it.

    Swede Help

Ashley Outdoors is now XS sight systems. Look them up and call and talk to Bo. He can help with what they have. They make a nice ghost ring set up also, and may have one integral with a base, but not sure about one for your application.

    Difference between 243 and 6.5

Handloaded, a modern 6.5x55 will move a 100 grain bullet 3300 fps or so. The .243 pushes a 100 grainer at around 3000. The 6.5 will push a 120 at that speed, and a 140 at around 2800+. I find the 6.5 will do anything the .243 will and will get close to what my .25-06 does with similar weight...

    CZ Stocks

Supposelly, they slimmed the American stock down a little this year, and changed the checkering pattern to something similar to Tikka. I thought the "older" style was a little thick, but it fit well.
