    S&W Masterpiece Fitz

I had some of the same thoughts about the difficulty of proving anything. I also think the Fitz is neat, but has it's place in 30's colts. Personally I wouldn't mind a well done Fitz on an Colt M1917 for the oddity, but I would rather not see another M1917 be ruined. After he brought it out, I...

    S&W Masterpiece Fitz

A buddy of mine returned from a show with this S&W K-38 Masterpiece Fitz special K-13xxxx and he wanted to know more about it and it's potential value. The price paid is average for a K-38. The bore is nice and general condition sits at around NRA good in my opinion. It has tight lockup and is...

    Lyman 35 Mauser Sight

Is anyone familiar with the early Lyman 35 peep sight for Mausers? I recently acquired a nice rifle with one installed and it's missing the dual apertures. It should have a small flip down aperture on the front end of the sight, and a larger removable target sight on the rear. The windage...

    Repair cracked handguard?

The wood is attached to the clips by rivets. The handguard is cracked all the way through, and is two pieces. The rivets to the clips are holding it together. Since the removing the handguard from the barrel releases tension on the clips, it opens the crack up to 1/4". Because of the risk of...

    1891 Milled Mosin barrel band

The screw is actually a RH thread, but you take off the band by tightening it, which of you don't know that, that's how they break. Most likely, the screw broke on the narrow stem or mushroom that holds the retaining washer.

    Repair cracked handguard?

Not much too it. First picture shows the rear of the handguard going over the receiver ring. The second picture is the only other rifle I have of the type. It's in poor condition, but the handguard stops at the receiver ring. Internet search of long Lee Enfields show the handguard not going past...

    Repair cracked handguard?

Rifle is a Lee Enfield long Lee. 1896. I'll take pictures when I can.

    Repair cracked handguard?

I recently picked up a rifle, antique, VG, never sanded or reblued. The only major issue is the upper handguard is cracked. The repair for the crack isn't as obvious as it normally should be, because the crack was caused, possibly, in the original assembly or repair of the rifle. I have been...

    1891 Milled Mosin barrel band

I had the same problem. Take a look at apex, it took a couple returns to get one that the retaining flare on the screw was still good on. Depending on condition, a half-assed polish and cold blue made my band match the half assed arsenal blue of the rifle.

Enfield- Bad Lugs and Unsafe rifle?

They called it fair/good. The policy says they will send a label for exchange due to dangerous defect (locking lugs?) Or I could pay shipping for cosmetic issue exchanges. The project path is where I believe I'm heading. Assuming the receiver's lugs are sound, I have been able to find sources...

Enfield- Bad Lugs and Unsafe rifle?

Those of you who have worked with RTI before, what are my chances if I contact customer service? Do they typically exchange for a rifle in better condition?

Enfield- Bad Lugs and Unsafe rifle?

Here are some additional pictures. Let me know if I need more or better. I also noticed that my bolt face does not close straight with the extractor attached, and it wobbles on close with the extractor out, which seems to me like a headspace issue.

Enfield- Bad Lugs and Unsafe rifle?

I'm fairly new to surplus collecting and have an interest in the older Long Lee Enfield MLE. They are fairly hard to come by, and until I can find a decent one at the right price, I decided to go for an importer's Ethiopian Lee as a placeholder until I can find a better one. What I ended up...

Building a Long Lee Enfield - is it Possible?

I have wanted a Long Lee Enfield MLE or CLLE ever since I first realized l didn't need to buy left handed friendly rifles. I haven't had much luck finding one at shows and local shops, and they always sell for prices beyond what I can afford at auction. I got to thinking, is it possible to build...

Where to find Pachmayr Rem Mod. 8 scope base

I recently found a Remington model 81 in great condition. The only issue is that it was tapped for optics, and not sold with them. I am reasonably certain that the holes were for a Pachmayr base. I have not had luck finding someone who would deal with NOS accessories, or on eBay. Does anyone...

    Springfield 1873 Safety Concerns

I got access to a second trapdoor in nicer condition to compare the breech blocks. The block on mine looks like it's oversized and the receiver was modified to fit.

    Springfield 1873 Safety Concerns

This is my first time posting on this site so I apologize in advance. I have an old Springfield 1873 full length rifle that I would some day like to shoot. It had been used as a deer rifle up until "recently" and shows signs of abuse. Overall, the rifle and bore looks good, and the wood is not...
