Speer's handloading manual lists 158gr LSWC for Unique, SR 7625, and 700X in that muzzle velocity range. I reload thousands of .357 magnums with 5.7gr of Unique under that bullet for cowboy. Very accurate in my 1873 Navy's.
Likely reloaded ammunition. As a hard core reloader, I might choose to be wary of another's handloaded ammo, for obvious reasons. I seldom, if ever, shoot someone's handloads and vice versa.
Do you know the chamber length? My guess is that it is 2 5/8 and originally used shells that were roll crimped and not star crimped. But as you are probably using light or CAS loads pressure may not be an issue. Thanks.
Well the new bolt fits pretty well. The shotgun goes into full battery, hammer falls, and it ejects an empty. However it only will eject an Federal Gold Medal with the semi high base and NOT an STS hull. Fortunately, I have over two thousand once fired Federals. Thanks Skidsteer1.
Thanks Scribner. Have a new bolt I got from either Outlaw Gambler in WI or Numrich, I can't remember. Anyway wish me luck that it fits. So I will give it a try.
I would leave it if it has the original finish. The only reason I had my Dad's re-done was the fact that it sat in a damp army foot locker. I had the slide re-finished by Craftguard in IA and they PARKED it which is wrong. That's when I sent it to Doug Turnbull in NY to have the Du-Lite...
My favorite? See above- two Union Switch and Signals. Some older 1911's and 1911a1's shoot better than the new ones. Feel free to ask me how I know. Thanks.
Scribner, I also have a 1947 take down. Your info was extremely helpful. My 1897 functions as you described, however it will not go into battery with an empty or live shell. I suspect that I have a right extractor problem. It functions well without a shell. Fortunately I am familiar with taking...
I have nine collectable 1911's. I store them in plastic bags, after I have applied Renaissance which is a micro-crystalline wax polish made in England. It is applied very sparingly with a soft cloth or gun patch. It really seems to preserve the finish. Thanks.
Awsome website! I consider myself pretty good intermediate handloader. I am very fussy, and I should be right? I have been shooting Wild Bunch and load 200 grn RNFP lead over 4.3 grns of Bullseye. I resize to .451 and have yet to have a round not go into battery, and they clear my pistol well. I...
