If you had to take a .22LR rifle to a gunfight...

Only penetrate 1-2" ? Come on. #6 shot that weighs two grains a piece will do that.

    Experimental Handguard for the GSR

Keeping your sweaty mitts off of the barrel is half of it but some gunk will still make it through the vent holes and how regularly are you going to wipe down the steel with a handguard in the way? I have run into a lot more rust in the crevices, under grip panels, below the stock line, etc...

bolt action vs semi-auto: what questions do I need to be asking myself?

+1 to that. 44 mag would fit the bill as well, in either the Marlin levergun or the discontinued Ruger semi-auto.

    .270 v. .30-30 v. 30-06

Disagree. At rifle impact speeds most tissue damage is stretching and tearing of displaced tissue, particularly when that tissue is weakened by bullet fragmentation. Only the last few inches of wound track where the bullet has slowed too much for significant stretching effects are caused by...

Breaking News* New AR15 .30 cal cartridge

The reason the Grendel has a lower operating pressure than the SPC is because the larger case head increases bolt thrust while removing bolt face material to fit it weakens the bolt. That is also the reason the SPC runs lower pressure than 5.56mm. If you are dumping the buggy AR platform for...

    Twist rates

A Nosler 77 gr .224 bullet has a L : D ratio of about 4.4:1. That's about the same as a 180 grain .30 caliber ballistic tip - which empirically stabilize fine in a 1:12 30-06 at about the same linear velocity. Why? Someone who knows more physics than I do will have to answer that.

Why the AK's magwell is better than the AR's...

Drop a loaded magazine in the mud. Then do the same thing with a loaded stripper clip. Which one do you think will pick up more dirt for your rifle to choke on?

    Eureka!

However much or little you might think of the terrorist loving son of a bi... I mean, honorable would-be Commander in Chief, that would seem to me to be a pretty good way to get a secret service visit. I'll pass on that.

    Obama AR-15

McCain is hardly a friend of ours but he doesn't even approach Obama's level of anti-gun radicalism. Obama has voted or voiced his support for a ban and confiscation of all semi-auto rifles, all handguns, all centerfire rifle ammunition, closing all gun stores within 5 miles of a public...

How accurate is your rifle at 34,000 yards?

Yes and no. The protected parts of the ship - the main artillery, the magazines, the engineering spaces - would obviously be largely invulnerable to ASM warheads designed to destroy unarmored structure. But the eyes and ears of the ship above decks - all the more so the electronics refitted...

    Which one and why

I figure a blue and walnut, traditional stock M1A is a lot more likely to survive the coming Obama gun ban than any evil black rifle. Buy the AR now while you still can, hopefully you can get the M1A or at least a reasonable facsimile later.

    Best Price For LMT?

Buying the upper and lower separately avoids the federal excise tax on manufacturing a complete rifle. That'll save you a hundred bucks or so right there.

    Which RRA AR?

I just went through this same research and decision process with similar objectives to yours. A moderate range plinker with a red dot optic that would also be suitable for defense. Literally just went through this process, as in the parts haven't all arrived yet, so I may yet find out I hate...

    .223 or 6.8spc for ar?

If you don't roll your own, the cheapest 6.8 SPC I've seen online will run you around 85-90c per round. You can still find M193 under 40c. If you can swing an extra 500 bucks a case for practice ammo, go for it.

do .308 and .30-06 kick too much for you?

Some recoil is fun. Lets you know something happened. If it wasn't we'd just shoot rimfires.

    7MM Mag replacement for 30-06

Before answering your question, you answered it yourself. You said you knew exactly what you wanted before you walked into the store, and that 7mm wasn't it. So why settle? The exact gun you want is a couple phonecalls away, you'll keep a good gun a lot longer than you'll remember waiting an...

Poll: Tikka T3 vs. CZ 550

The cracking stocks is a real issue with the magnums - as in the 458, Rigby, maybe the .375 - as the stocks aren't pinned or bedded from the factory. The mild 6.5 isn't going to crack anything.

What does your CZ452 Ultra Lux like?

CCI Subsonics are too long for the chamber on my 452. The bullet is forced into the rifling on closing the bolt, which makes for stiff closing. My favorite are the now discontinued PMC Moderators.

    Remington 700 or Winchester 70

Which Win 70? I don't have any experience with the new (as in South Carolina) model to have an opinion. The last couple years, maybe longer than that, coming out of Connecticut were pretty much crap from a QA standpoint. I'd rather a Mosin that works over a gun that doesn't feed anytime. But...
