I forget where I read it, but someone tested this and found that in short barrel handguns, loads with slower burning powders still produced higher velocities than switching to faster powders if that is your concern.
I switched from vibratory to the FART this year, and not only does it get cases cleaner faster, I think it’s easier to use and less mess. If I could only have one it would be a wet tumbler.
I rarely use the pins, only on really nasty cases. When I do use pins I have one of those NM separators...
Nice. I picked up a Win M94 in 45 Colt several years ago just for fun, and then Michigan goes and opens up for pistol cartridges for deer. I load some midrange 255 SWCs that will shoot in both the rifle and blackhawk.
FYI for those asking, the DNR came out and said the rule is based on the...
I’ve used AA2, AA5, and AA7 in 45 Colt loads under 200-255 grn cast lead with good results. And they’ve been available in my local shop (either AA5 or AA7 was out last time I went in but they had plenty of AA2). You May have to create a list and see what’s in stock.
I give mine a wipe down when I’m done for the day. I’m currently on a mission to become more proficient with it so it’s getting range time followed by a cleaning at least weekly. Once that slows down it’ll only get a cleaning when it goes to the range. I carried a blued gun for a while but it...
I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. My old round small primer tray went missing so I picked up a whole new hand prime a few years ago (it’s the square tray model for what that’s worth) and it’s not uncommon for me to have 2-3 flipped primers per 100, where I never had that issue with the old one...
I started out reloading with Lee dies, and I just used my first set of Lee dies today (in 30-06 no less). The best group I’ve shot with that rifle was reloads I made with those dies so I’m sure they’re capable. I’ve also used RCBS, Hornady, and I’ve got some old Herters and Pacific dies too...
Yeah looks to me like a bad depth guide. Usually the turned down ‘pin’ portion is longer. If it wasn’t trimming over length I would have guessed that it had broken or was incorrectly trimmed. I’ve even filed the pin down a bit on one to get the exact trim length I wanted.
