Well, I went out tonight and shot the hawken. I used 70 gr ffg american pioneer. All was well, so I bumped it up to 80gr. I'm still smiling. This will be a lot of fun.

The brass on this one has a nice patina. I was going to polish it up, but I think I'll leave it alone. It does have one spot that has turned green on the butt plate. Anyone know how to remove the oxidation without polishing the brass underneath?

I wanted to clean the barrel out before I shoot it, and I wanted to get a new nipple. The nipple is a little mushroomed. I might try it anyways like it is. I'll go easy on the 777. I will let everyone know how it works out. I plan to hunt deer this fall with it.

I was at a gunshow yesterday and picked up a T/C Hawken in 50 caliber in nice shape for $200. I also puchased FFG American Pioneer Powder, #11 caps, .490 round balls and .010 patches. My question is what would the starting load of powder be for this firearm? I'm guessing about 80G of FFG...

Can a .457 ball as used in a Ruger Old Army be used in any other brand of black powder pistol. I cast my own, and would like to buy another type of revolver and would like to stay with the same ball size. If not, I'll get another size mold :D

I have an EMF Hartford '92 in 45 Colt. It shoots and functions great, but can anyone suggest a solution to the problem of that it puts a pretty big dent in my brass when it ejects the spent case. Someone mentioned I could possibly buy a lighter spring or something :confused:

I like my Mountain Gun in 45 Colt.

DA favorite is my 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt. SA favorite is my 3 1/2" Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt.

For a front sight, might I suggest a brass bead. Drill and tap the barrel and screw it in. It might look cool.
