Best looking full size 9mm semi-auto

Oh good golly! The Hi Power has to be the most beautiful 9mm, in terms of the flow of the design. Even in ragged condition it just looks elegant. The CZ 75 and Beretta 92 are close seconds.

    Quality American non-1911 semi-autos?

"While Ruger pistols look big and strong compared to say a Smith, there is a reason for all that bulk. Ruger uses investment castings for their frames, Smith uses forged frames. When discussing autoloaders you will also find stamped parts as well." A properly executed investment cast frame...

So you think the majority of LEO's are anti-gun?

Law enforcement personnel are a slice of their community and their views reflect their prejudices, upbringing and political orientation. My (very) small sampling of Atlanta city police officers tells me that many are anti-gun and there seems to be a clear race and gender bias - more black...

Anyone who doesn't care for 1911's

There was a time when I hated the 1911 - an outgrowth of my time in the Army when the 1911 was still the issue sidearm and I couldn't hit jack with those old, rickety, rattly WWII relics with the lousy sights. Then, as I got older and memory faded I picked up a Springfield 1911 Loaded and...

    Massad Ayoob?

Perhaps the biggest favor Mr. Ayoob has done for me through the years is teach me that it is all right to not carry and devote my life to the 1911, that other designs/calibers work equally well in the real world and that things like magazine disconnect safeties actually have a useful purpose...

Do you carry with a round chambered?

Yes. Always. Why carry any other way?

Best gun based on least complaints and recommendations against?

No gun is perfect, and even 'perfect' manufacturers put out a turkey now and again. That said, my personal experience tells me that S&W 3rd Generation pistols, particularly the 9mm models, are boringly reliable and acceptably accurate. My CZ85 was an a amazing pistol - a better High Power...

    Mec gar mags

Regardless of the coating, MecGar magazines are every bit as good as the factory offerings (and for many pistols, MecGars are the factory offerings!).

    Kahr or Glock

I've owned both. A Kahr CW9 and a number of Glocks, to include the G26. The Kahr was the only pistol I've ever owned that I've sold in disgust. Two trips to the factory and a new barrel and slide and Kahr still couldn't make it work. Stovepipe jams every third round, like clockwork. Lousy...

If you were called to defend your town...

Who's buying the ammo? If the local cops/National Guard, I suppose I'd just bring along a Mini-14 and some empty magazines and beg for ammo. I'd also haul along a good 9mm semi-auto pistol and plenty of spare magazines. All the zooper uber tacticool weaponry isn't much use if you don't have...

Looking for feedback on the S&W 5906...

Storm, Hello! I'm actually down in Fayette County. The only difference between the 5906 and the 5903 is the frame material; the 5905 is steel, the 5903 is aluminum alloy. The slide and all internal parts are the same. Just FYI, the 5903 I owned was the most accurate 9mm handgun I've ever...

Looking for feedback on the S&W 5906...

Until the new M&Ps came along, the 5906 was S&Ws flagship full size 9mm duty pistol. Some estimates say that more 5906s filled police holsters than Glocks ever did. They are big, brawny, unapologetic all metal (and perhaps somewhat overbuilt) duty pistols. I love 'em! The 5906 is a TDA...

    4043 thoughts?

The grip width on the double stack 40xx series is the same as on the double stack 59xx series (they use the same grips) and I find that, with the straight back factory grips, the ergonomics are excellent. The DAO 3rd Generation pistols are even better because the trigger reach is shorter than...

Well I could use some factory magazines for my 4046!

870 J lock saftey change out... Ball bearing..

Brownells sells them. Part # 767-232-230. Cost is about $4.00. I've noticed on my two 870 Express shotguns Remington doesn't use a ball bearing but a small plunger with one end radiused about the same as a ball bearing. My older Wingmaster, however, uses a ball bearing.

    Remington 870 mods

You generally need look no further than Brownells or Midway. Like someone else said, if they don't have it you probably don't need it!

    870 wingmaster price check

+1 Bad finishes can hide a lot. I recently bought a used Wingmaster police shotgun that had a bad parkerizing job. My local refinisher took one look at it and recommended we not try to polish/reblue it because it was so badly pitted. I didn't notice the pitting under the parkerizing, but...

Rem. 870 VS. Mossberg 500 (pump)

I'm a southpaw. For me the 500's controls are better laid out. However, the standard stock shape (LOP, drop, and comb) on the Remington is FAR better. When I shoulder the 870 my eye is in natural alignment with the barrel. When I shoulder my 500 I have to shift my head around to get a proper...

    Hi-Cap 9mm

For $400 right now you can get a new or nearly new S&W 5906 from CDNN. Can't ask for anything better in a hi-cap 9mm. The left over cash can be used to cover FFL transfer fees and perhaps an extra magazine or two.

    Ruger LCP 380 auto

Hmmm... I've owned three Kel-Tec firearms (Sub2000, P11 and a P3AT). One thing they can't be accused of being is cheap. I always found the parts to be well made and well fitted and the guns work as advertised. In fact, a number of 'big name' gun manufacturers could learn a thing or two from...
