what's the "most displeased with" gun you ever bought?

Any of the AR/M-4 clones I've owned. They were my first purchase when I got back into shooting after a hiatus. Everyone had such a raging (bleep) for them I figured they had to be THE THING. Pip-sqeek round, boring gun with no soul, modular Fisher-Price feel and construction; I could go on...

Questions on 1917 Enfield...How to Know What to Buy??

Well, as someone who has dabbled a bit in U.S. C&R type weapons, I'd say 1) establish your max price, 2) and 3) find the best barrel and highest serial number that price will allow. This is especially true with 1917's because of their age and difficulty in refurbishing. I wouldn't worry about...

    Colt Python: Best .357Mag ever?

Of course its personal preference, but I think not; the Python has fragile lock work and uncomfortable, un-ergonomic grips. The Best? Smith 'Registered' Magnum. Again, all personal preference. The Smith is the best because it is the best tool, and that is what a weapon is; is tool. The...

    M&P 340 and a Ruger LCR

I have both and like them both a great deal. I have to admit, the LCR is VERY impressive and a great value. It is a smidge larger than the J-frame; enough so that it usually needs its own holsters, which can be a limitation. But the trigger is very sweet; the Smith will smooth out, but I...

    .308 vs 30-06

ACTUALLY... the .30-06 is far superior because the M-1 Garand was chambered for it. If the .308 was a superior round, the Garand would have been chambered for it, instead! So THAT settles it! :neener: ;)

So, another Garand, or an M1A Loaded?

longdayjake: there are plenty of garands out there, in all conditions and price ranges. I aquire for condition, rather than historical value, because I shoot, not collect, so I like the Springfield commercial ones, the accurized and NM ones, etc. Its all Garand! FMJMIKE: you are really...

So, another Garand, or an M1A Loaded?

OK, here's the dilema: Do I pick up another Garand (which will make #3), or do I spread out and get an M1A Loaded, with all the neccesary new stuff, like mags, different ammo, dies, etc. I don't own both now (and have never had an M1A), but I figure those of you that do could give me some...

    Pocket Carry Poll

Well, I voted for the P3AT, but the ULTIAMTE pocket gun is a Smith Airweight snubbie.

Second to last gun purchase for the year!

"I probably spent a couple more bucks on it than I would have at the show" Not if your shows are like the ones here. I can always find guns themselves no more expensive, and often cheaper from dealers, and accessories are always cheaper online, but at the show I can fondle them :p . Surplus...

    Ruger Stainless Bisley 45

Check out Bear Mountain Sports in Mesa, AZ. A few weeks ago, they hod one. I almost bought it:D but went for a 5.5" Redhawk in.44.

    The decline of shotshell reloading?

Plus, if you appreciate GOOD ammo and what it can do for you (accuracy, velocity and consistancy DO matter in shotshells as much as metallic), you'll shy away from those loss-leaders and Wally-World specials. Last time I checked, they frequently used reclaimed shot, and this is even more...

    CCW etiquette

A "Posted Business" means (in Arizona-eese) that it is posted "No Firearms". But, as explained to me by the ex-DPS patrolman who taught my CC class, what that really means is if they DO see your weapon, they must first ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave, then there is an issue (on your...

    Range report: S&W 37 airweight

I have 2 myself, both w/ spurless hammers. Just 'cause you probably will never see another lock-less, fanged-hammer Smith again. And so very light in the pocket. Prefer the SP101 for high-volume work, and really stout loads. I heard it was a Japanese order that didn't get filled. You...

As seen on Drudge Report (as of 4:30 PM Mnt/Pac) What pistol is this? Looks to me like it might be a Ruger.

    Pre-Beginner Questions

Thanks for the recommendations on manuals; I was wondering which ones to start with. Yes, it makes sense to clean first before running a case through the dies. And then to clean again once the brass has been de-capped. Yeh, I've been reading the brand wars here; even if you take them with...

    Pre-Beginner Questions

Pre-Beginner Questions It has been about fifteen years since I did any reloading, so I have forgotten most of what I knew. I haven’t even bought a manual yet (it will be my first item purchased), but from reading and researching I have a pretty good understanding of the process and the...

    #8.5 shot

Federal makes an #8.5 target load. I picked up a couple of cases of 28ga. at 6.15 a box :) Probably won't get too many reloads from the hulls, but the price was worth trying them.

    20 gage, thoughts/ opinions?

If you already have a 12, why not go for a 28? I don't see the 20 as offering any advantage over either, just increased recoil due to a lighter gun with a charge similar to a 12, or a heavier gun with a 28 charge. Try a 28; you'll wonder why you didn't get one a long time ago. Only MHO; YMMV.
