I've won a few trophies so I can shoot passably.
The other day I was PRIMARILY checking "function" but still aiming at paper.
The small distraction of ...slightly... being aware of the functioning seemed to ...help
My groups actually diminished. Like maybe I had been...
I've had the series 70 Colt. Made a mistake of replacing the finger type bushing due to fear of breakage. Never was the same again. Got it CLOSE, but finally gave the gun to my kid.
If I were going .45 again, I'd try the Smith.
:)
I installed the Volquartsen "Exact Edge" extractor and everything got a lot better.
Running the bolt dry in the receiver was what made me consider just taking the sharp edges off the new extractor.
The bolt was going ..... A L M O S T... into battery easily but there was just a...
I didn't do anything to the ejector pin, but I make it a practice to NOT use the slide release to release the slide on any semi. I always snap it and let the full force loose.
Okay, the Ruger in this thread:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=355482
now has the Volquartsen extractor. HOORAY!
AND it extracts.
BUT it rides over the next round in the mag ..unless... 3 rounds are gone. In which case it works fine.
I took EVERYTHING to the range. I...
I am forgetting the project. I was just musing about how neat a ONE HAND pistol using the ultra reliable Ruger mag would be.
Sort of a cheapass Walther GSP. The Walthers have short barrels yet are very accurate.
:(
If you sawed (well...turned) the barrel to 4" and did NOT put it back in the rifle stock but modified the rifle stock to be a pistol stock, would it be legal?
Thinking Ruger 10-22 here.
I ....cleaned.... the mags. I did EVERYTHING. I even took the thing apart and REMOVED the light coat of grease and ran it DRY.
Other than smelting it and re-alloying and casting a new gun, I tried everything.
I now have an extractor on the way.
Let's hope this does it. At least....I...
Dry running the bolt alone with a full mag chambers EASILY. Extracts fine and the case doesn't hit mag lips.
Only occasionally.
The comments on this link have convinced me to try an extractor...
Progress (?) report
OK. While looking at the gun, I noticed that the recoil spring guide (the half moonie looking thing) was very rough cast. So I took my DMT diamond stone and stoned the thing until it was smooth and had no valleys and ridges as it came from the factory.
VOILA!
for...
Going to try several ammos. The grease is LIGHT.... light light light.
Just a smear. No globbing. Light recoil sounds about right.
But as I recall, it digests the CCI std vel just fine, but not sure as it's been a while.
I've never shot mini mags. MIght start.
Sure gonna TRY em.
It's usually the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round. With either mag.
It fails to eject the spent round and turns it sideways on top of the new round and jams on it. Only way to clear is to fumble the mag out (it's the old style with heel release) and then pull out the empty and if the live one is...
Just FYI, Office Max has a really NEAT little combo metal reinforced carry case with a clipboard on one side for taking notes and stuff.
The box closes with a COMBINATION.
Nice for private things.
:D
Thanks. I like geek's answer. The others are illustrative also.
I have CCW but was just curious.
With Hillary almost a shoo-in, I'm just considering options.
