    Custer's Gun

Custer would of used a cap-n-ball revolver similar to this during the Civil War, but by Little Big Horn he would of had a cartridge revolver.

    Gallery load for 30-30

473AA is kind of a a oddball powder. So I don't know if anyone will have direct experience. Take a gander at the link below for info on using pistol powders for low velocity rifle rounds. Caste lead bullet are the only way to go. I'd load up a few cases with 5.0 gr of 473AA and go from there...

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

I have a AWW84XX in my collection that shipped Feb 24, 1988. That's why I started my own s/n database, I just saw so many discrepancies with the SCSW. Thing is there are a lot of outliers, dates are all over the place, out of sequence, especially in the "A's". I'd be the first to admit...

    Binoculars for work

The classic naval binoculars were typically porro prism 7x50's with individual eye piece focus. The action of the waves makes high magnification images jumpy, and the big objective lenses pull in light for night viewing. Nikon makes a great version. Fuji and Pentax also offer marine binos. These...

    Weekend Auction in America's Dairyland

Went to a auction in DeForest, WI, this weekend. Mostly household stuff, but a some long guns and ammo. I was bidder 147 and one of the last to arrive. There was maybe 20 guys that showed any interest in the firearms. Everything went higher than I thought it would. Browning Auto 22 LR...

    Garand Gear Tung Oil- Questions/Feedback

I bought a can of Old Masters tung oil 18 years ago. At the time, it was the only place I could find pure tung oil. Have used it on many milsurps over the the years. Still have some, but it's getting thicker with age. There may be more options today, but I can say Old Masters works well...

Is Fluid Film compatible with BP?

The fouling wipes off pretty easy. I have a 1851 that I shot for over a decade and never once fully disassembled or used a drop of water on it. Only Fluid Film. Which, admittedly, I slathered it in freely. It remains rust free to this day.

Is Fluid Film compatible with BP?

I've been using Fluid Film on my black powder firearms for over 20 years. Never had a problem with rust. It's great stuff. IMO, one of the best, if not THE BEST, BP lube you can use. It's mostly lanolin - natural sheep's wool oil. You gotta understand what an MSDS is. It NOT a list...

    303 British Powder Choice

    With a 174 or 180 gr bullet I like 4320, RL-15, and N540. With 150 gr bullets I like something a bit faster: Varget and 4064

    Why "Plink" Loads?

I think the very premise of the question is flawed. As others have said, there's no reason a plinking load can't be accurate.

    S&W 642 or 638?

This topic comes up a lot on the various handgun forums. They're both good guns and once they go in your pocket you really can't tell a difference between their "humps". One guy had an opinion that I agree with. He thought the M638 was better for "country carry". Situations where you might...
