    Rem. Mod. 5/Charles Daly owners...

Have you picked up one of the Remington Model 5s on closeout lately? The ones with the plain vanilla stock? Or, did you take advantage of the Charles Daly Superior II bargains last year? The biggest complaint of these rifles seems to be the ugly blonde or sewer brown stocks that often come...

Micor 1N9 flash supressor for AR15s

Ok, ever since I noticed the Micor ad in a magazine a couple months ago, I have wanted to try out their new flash suppressor. I really like the looks of it, and taking the "twist" concept that the Vortex shares (which has been reported help accuracy) to a more scientific approach has my...

Wolf .223 in a Bolt Action (Remington 700 Tactical)

I have shot a couple hundred rounds of Wolf 55gr. HP through my Remmy 700 SPS Varmint. While not one-hole accurate, it shoots pretty decent. The steel used in the cases is waaaay softer than the steel in your rifle. Its not going to hurt it. It is dirtier than most other ammo I have shot in...

    Stag or Rock River Arms???

My "slight nod to RRA" comes from the fact that RRA has more factory choices, you can get a stainless bbl. if desired, and at least in my area, RRA has a little better resale value than Stag should you decide to move it for something else. Absolutely nothing wrong with Stag in my eyes. DPMS...

    Stag or Rock River Arms???

For buying a complete rifle, I would give the nod slightly to RRA, although I have nothing against Stag. In fact, my latest rifle is an RRA complete lower with a Stag 2H upper. It is my favorite gun in the safe. Accurate, and dead nuts reliable.

Tell me about CZ bolt-action .22's

I own 3 CZ rimfires. I sold all my other .22 rifles. I have a Trainer, an Ultralux and an American. They are all very accurate, even with some cheaper bulk ammo. I am thinking hard about getting another one soon. They are the great addiction. :D

Your pick for a single stack 9mm that is NOT a 1911 design

Walther P1 Sig P225 would be a close second.

    coach gun

I own a Stoeger 20ga. It is tough as nails, absolutely reliable, and shoots Remington #3 Buck great. The recoil in the 20ga. is not bad at all. I have owned a couple of Stoeger 12ga. coach guns in the past, and thought they were great as well, although one of those didn't have a recoil pad...

    Remington 700 SPS Varmint

They make an SPS Tactical with a 1/9 twist. I don't shoot the heavy bullets out of my rifles with a 1/9 twist anyway...62gr is tops, and most rounds are 55gr. But, the option is there for those who desire.

    Remington 700 SPS Varmint

I bought one of the O.D. stocked ones from Dick's. I took off the cheap Remington scope that came on it and topped it off with a Nikon ProStaff 3x9x40, and added a bipod. I put a decent sling on it, and in trekking out to my 'yote hunting spots, I don't find it too heavy to tote with the...

What are some good "Sleeper" Semiautos?

Walther P1's are great guns, and can be had rather cheaply right now. EAA Witness pistols are super. Rock Island Armory 1911s are probably the best bang-for-the-buck in my opinion.

I have a chance to pick up a Springfield Armory Firecat 9mm.....

Ooops, you are correct, the A75s were the double actions. My bad. I bought mine from SOG for $299 with two mags when they were new. It was park'ed, had wood grips, and the mags were park'ed as well. The gun looked nicer than the Astras of the day.

I have a chance to pick up a Springfield Armory Firecat 9mm.....

The Firecats were actually Astra A75s that Springfield imported with their name on it. I had one when they came out in the mid-90s. Great guns. There are many, many times I regret trading that pistol off.

bobbed the hammer on my 1911

He didn't "ruin" anything. Colt beavertails and hammers can be had from Brownells if the gun needs to be returned to its original condition. (for whatever reason that may be) GASP!! The grips and sights aren't original either! Next the other half of the witch hunt will be along to...

    S&W .22LR recommendation

I have two S&W 22A pistols. Both 5.5", two tone. They both shoot great, only a few minor feed problems during break in. Speaking of the break in, these pistols are either painted or powder coated. When new, they need a good dose of lube (I prefer Tetra gun grease) on the slide rails. Until...

Went to research & rent, ended up buying a Walther P1.

Very nice! I am picking up a P1 in similar condition Saturday. I owned one before with the hex pin upgrade, but it didn't have the "fat" slide. It shot very well, and I had to sell it to fund the divorce lawyer. Winchester white box 115's seem to work great in P1's/P38's. The last one I...

    20 gauge home defense shotgun?

I have a Stoeger youth 20ga. sxs next to the bed stoked with Remington buckshot. The youth model has 22" barrels, fixed chokes of imp. cyl. and modified. Being a sxs, the barrels sit farther back on the receiver, so the 22" bbl. gun is no longer than an 18" pump would be. They also sport the...

    Oh com'on - Weaponology : SAS

Yeah, I saw the show too, and was disappointed in the misinformation. At one point in time, they showed a pic of an operator with a 1911 on his hip, and the narrator saying the SAS carried Brownings. While an original John M. Browning design, I don't think that is what they were talking about...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Last purchase was a High Standard 1911. I love the look of a GI .45, but when I get one, I can't seem to leave them alone. Hopefully I will resist temptation and leave this one stock. hans1911 (formerly GHILLIE)
