.357sig a good round for carry? why doesnt anyone carry this?

Rattlesnake - Are you NMSP? If so, how are your G31s holding up? Some agencies have reported durability problems (short lifespans) with the 357 SIG chambered Glocks.

An interesting ammo test: Doubletap 125gr 357 full house

Yep, I noticed that. I figure Mike doesn't want his .357 Magnum load topping his 155/165-grain 10mm load (like Buffalo Bore's do) because the 10mm are pretty much his "bread and better." It's a real touchy point with some 10mm shooters (a lot of whom are big DT fans) that the .357 Magnum easily...

.357sig a good round for carry? why doesnt anyone carry this?

Not particularly. The DPS carries it, but at least one other state-level LEA carries the .40 S&W which is far more common in municipal and county LEAs than the 357 SIG (which is pretty reflects what is happening in the rest of the country). Basically, the 357 SIG is a .40 S&W case strengthened...

.357sig a good round for carry? why doesnt anyone carry this?

It ranks right up there with the 9x19, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP with current generation premium LE/defence loads. There's not enough difference in terminal effectiveness to make a difference (with the caveat the .40 S&W and .45 ACP do yield slightly larger permanent cavities than the 9x19/357 SIG)...

    What's wrong with 147 gr?

The 147-grain Ranger T is probably the best LE/defence load in the 9x19. I've found the 147-grain loads to be a little more accurate to boot.

    22lr for defence

My take on the .22LR for defence is while it is a long ways from ideal, it is a viable alternative (and certainly much better than nothing). When it comes to the truly small handguns, they are all basically stick it in their eye (or ear) and pull the trigger--a the .22 is a good in that mode as...

    Speed Six action

The first thing to do is to take it apart and clean it thoroughly--get all the old oil/preservative/gunk out. The second thing to do is to buy a set of snap caps and dry-fire it a few hundred times. It should make a big difference.

    Why is Ruger so... slow...

Because if they tell you two weeks and it takes three, you're unhappy. If they tell you eight and it takes four, you're happy. I must be one of the lucky ones--I've never had any trouble with any Ruger whether purchased NIB or used (which is more than I can say S&W, Colt and most certainly...

    American Eagle in 10mm

American Eagle is made by Federal. It is good practice/plinking ammo. Yes. Nope--not for practice and plinking. For carry, the 175-grain Winchester Silvertip is probably best way to go (though the Federal 180-grain Hydra-Shok is no slouch in that department). Without going into a lot a...

revolvers more accurate that semiauto handguns?

Put a typical service auto in a Ransom Rest and typical service revolver in a Ransom Rest, the revolver will deliver a tighter group at longer distance than the auto. We begin to see the term "combat accuracy" in gun reviews ONLY after autos became more popular for LE/defence use.

    Sig P229 .357 Sig

The P229 (and/or the P239) is definitely my least favourite of the classic SIGs (and I've tried them all)--it simply does not "feel" as good or carry as does the P228, P225, P226. Personnally, I would only have a P229 for as long as it took me trade it for a P228 or P226. As for the 357 SIG...

    Why no 30-30 bolt actions?

Rimmed - check Relatively low pressure round - check Offers the choice of round nosed bullets - check Sounds to me like a .303 British--a quintessential bolt action round--though it has been chambered in at least one lever action. A rim does not make a lever-action round (just ask all...

    Why no 30-30 bolt actions?

What makes the .30-30 a "levergun cartridge" (although it's most commonly found in leverguns)? Bolt actions, pump actions and single shots have been chambered in .30-30. Frankly, I'd love to get my hands on a Winchester Model 54 in .30-30.

    Glocks and a potential weakness.

The problem is the Glock is striker fired. An often overlooked fact is striker fired systems do not hit the primer with the same punch as hammer fired systems. A Glock (or any striker fired handgun) has the potential to have more problems igniting hard primers than hammer fired handguns.

22 magnum as a self defense round

As a rule, and as well illustrated in this thread, people tend to underestimate the .22 and overestimate their favourite calibre.

22 magnum as a self defense round

While I don't own or carry a .22 Magnum, I'm not sure there are any firm "rules" (or "laws") when it comes to the effectiveness of handgun calibres (other than placement counts). Given good placement and adequate penetration, they'll work about equally well (but they're are many trade-offs...

22 magnum as a self defense round

The best I recall there was a North Carolina State Trooper named Coates who managed to put five (or maybe all six) rounds from his .357 Magnum revolver (loaded with 145-grain Silvertips) into a BG's torso at traffic stop gone bad. The BG got one .22 Magnum into Trooper Coates which stopped the...

Is .22 any good in combat?

For a good mand with a knife, I'm pretty sure that'd would be true of any handgun--regardless of calibre--at arm's length. Of course, the key is not to let it get to arm's length.
