    First time Single Action purchaser

I'm a regular SASS shooter and you'll not go wrong with the Ruger's. For SASS though, the 38's are the better way to go and what the majority are shooting. The transfer bar mechanism is great so that you can carry the 6th round when in the woods and you can also use the 357 magnum.

Would you buy your SAA again or a different make, caliber, model?

I shoot SASS matches with New Model Vaqueros. I've got a pair that I use for 38s and a pair for 45s. Nice guns. As for caliber, consider 44-40s if you might shoot blackpowder and match the caliber to your rifle.

    Shooting Steel Targets...Safety

Lead ammo with low velocity on steel. Set the targets with a slight angle so that the bullet fragments downward to the ground.

    New member, old gun

For an original trench gun that's a low price. OK price for a '97 though. I've got two of them, one a 1908 model and the other's a 1905 model. I shoot them in cowboy matches and put a couple of hundred rounds a month through them. I use Winchester AA featherlites and they're terrific...

    Gun Shops SW Ohio

Couple of nice ones north of Dayton if you want to make a drive up. Vandalia Range and Armory's nice with a good range. The owner's a pretty nice guy. Old English Outfitter's is nice but, no range.

    Winchester 1897 experts?

Terrific gun and I've got two of them. Mine are cut down to 20 inch barrels for Cowboy shooting and they're really fun. Quick link for take down. http://www.marauder.homestead.com/files/Model97down.html Also, go to a site such as amazon.com and buy the DVD on the WInchester 97 by Larry...

    Ruger revolver grips

Last month I bought a set of grips from Grashorns and he delivered just what I expected pretty quick. Said in an E mail he can make other grips that aren't shown on the web site. http://grashornsgunworks.com/_wsn/page2.html

    Puma Lever Rifles

I shoot a Marlin 1894 Cowboy and it's smooth and pretty fast. I love shooting the 357s with it. I haven't shot a Puma but see those that do and they seem to do wel with them. A 357 lever gun is really nice.

What should be my first pump?

I like the model 97; it really looks good with that exposed hammer.

Cowboy gun. Which one ? What caliber ?

I've got the New Model Vaquero's; one set in 38s, one set in 45 Colt. I don't reload and the cost of the 45s is a lot higher so, I shoot the 38s much more often. My hands are a little large so I bought some grips and had the guy who made them up for me make them a little thicker. I'm told the...

    Model 1897 Winchester

I've got two of them, both D models. Without looking it up, I think one's a 1905 model and the other's a 1908 model. I'll probably shoot 750 rounds or so through them this year, using light loads.

    Winchester 1897 or Norinco Clone

I've bought two original 97s this past year and they're both terrific shooters. I couldn't bring myself to buy an imported copy when there's plenty of good originals out there. I bought a DVD that explains the complete teardown, workings and assembly of one of these guns and the DVD's well...

    SAA caliber?

I've got a pair of New Model Vaquero's in 357 / 38 for CAS and a second pair in 45 Colts. The 38s are certainly less recoil and for speed shooting that means a lot. Also, they're the cheapest to shoot and since I don't reload, it adds up pretty quick. The 45s though, don't really have that...

    Winchester or Marlin?

I did look at a Henry at the local Walmart and it was the cheapest price. I've decided though, to buy from one of the local stores even though it will cost me a little more. Anyhow, I've decided on the Winchester or Marlin even though the Henry's pretty nice.

    Winchester or Marlin?

I agree that the end-of-production situation shouldn't be a reason to pay more. The $549 price for the Winchester doesn't seem too out of line based on what I'm seeing on the Internet but, maybe I could do better. Based on what I've read and am hearing, as much as I like the name...
