    first 22 advise

I would get a Ruger 10/22. He'll have it forever. You can load one round at a time in the mag if that is an issue. I think it offers a good combination of low price, durability, accuracy, and after market stocks. I avoided the 10/22 for years because I thought it was "too popular" to be...

In Praise of a Discontinued Gun

I shot one only once, maybe 20 years ago. I really liked the feel of the trigger. Odd as it seems I remember it to this day.

    Tru Oil on Norinco Sks

Sadly no. Get the proper protective gear and in a well ventilated area (lawyer talk) use acetone to dissolve the old finish. Go slow, it takes time. Then you can use a product called Lin-Speed oil finish. It is a gun shop product. I am not saying it is the only way to do it. Lots of options...

    Increasing SKS durability

Currently using Lin-Speed oil on mine with good results. A nice satin finish.

The recent trend toward accessory rails is a bad one.

Im anti rail and find them useless. As for a flashlight, gun goes in the strong hand, light in the weakhand extended away from the body. That way if the BG shoots at the light, he womt hit your COM. I thought everyone knew that.

    Shotgun barrel and bore question

Thanks for the replies. FWIW, I have no intention of using buckshot so I am not at all concerned about it. The days of the 20 being a second class shell are long over. You can get almost any slug in 20 that you can get in 12. So there won't be any issue. Thanks again JTR

    Shotgun barrel and bore question

I just bought a very cheap 20 ga Mossy bolt gun. My intended use is pig hunting. As I have poor vision, short range hunting with iton sights is fine for me. Here is my problem. The barrel cane with a "C-Lect-Choke" device. It also has 5 verticle porting cuts on both sides of the barrel. It...

    $305 Colt Detective Special Grips?

It is a pretty common way of laundering money. I used to see a lot of Russian guys selling $30 cameras for hundreds of dollars. Not a bad scam really.

    NAA Mini Revolver temptation...

Personally, I would pass on it. i have one. It needs a new cylinder and i just can't see wasting $80 bucks to get it fixed. I would look at the Ruger Bearcat, that's a neat little gun you can actually use. Joe

    Advanced AK

The last improvment to the platform was the AKM, sheet metal receiver. For what they are, they are perfect. I wouldn't even bother putting a scope on any of mine. They are like Glocks, just add bullets.

    Hi-Point Pistol?

You can get a HP for 100-150, every other full caliber autoloader costs about 400-600. So, is a 150 dollar gun as good as a 600 gun? Is store cola as good as Coke? Are keds as good as Nike? Are Toyotas as good as Bentleys?

Still fixing all the LCPs with broken triggers I guess, JTR

How to use the most basic of sights, the leaf spring sight..

WOW, I have never felt so old and out od date in my life. Hell, I think adjustable sights are the cat's meow. Most of the guns I learned on had fixed sights. You saw where the bullets wehnt and adjusted your aim. Joe

    Sawed off shotguns

Or you could just use a muzzle loader shotgun and save the leagal garbage. Just make combustable paper cartridges and you should be all set. Just a thought. JTR

Anyone bought one of the .303 Martini rifles/carbines

To add to the confusion... 15 or so years ago i bought a 577-450 from someone in the Shotgun News (no idea anymore) The add said they were from Africa and were being sold as "barreled actions" and not expected to be usable. Well the darn thing was in great condition. locks up tight, good...

    New gun from Bersa!(PICS)

Ummm, no. No. I don't think I'll be getting in line for that one. Thanks anyway. Looks like the lovechild of an Astra and an M&P. Yeck!

    Gun cleaning with acetone

As for the chemestry debate, I will say my cat's naem is mittens. I will saw that do test a small area before you use it on a blued gun. I have a very old RG revolver that I used acetone on. Iy didn't strip the bluing off, but the q tip just kept turning black. I have to believe that small...

Ruger LCP - reports of broken trigger mechanism - Warning to LCP owners!

On behalf of Strum Ruger, Inc. i would like to thank you for being our R&D department. Now don't lets be calling Keltec junkers anymore, it seems that them rugers aint so perfect themselves. And yes, by all means, if a gun is prone to breakage, buy and carry a second one. Go to store...

    Mossy 590 to 500

Thanks guy. I awread have the 590. A new mag tube is 35 bucks and 500 barrels are a dime a dozen. They come with a long and a shot barrel. Either one would be fine with me. I think I could go this for around $70 bucks. I just wanted to know if the back end of the shotguns (where they...

    Mossy 590 to 500

Year ago, before I knew better, I got a Mossberg 590. Well, it has all the swing and balance of a boat oar. And yes, I bought a bunch of cheap black plastic crap for it too. Young and dumb. Anyway, the gun is back to stock. But I would really like a 500 size gun. It looks to me that if I...
