    U.S. Army going with SigP220?

Acquisitions +1 on waterhouse gov't acquistion process ---- slow!!!! I should know as an AD USAF officer workin acquisitions! Also, don't care for the M9. 9mm is ok, but the M9s we qual with are old. Buddy of mine found crack on his barrel durring pre-qual inspec ... good thing he didn't...

    Help Needed: Daughter's First Handgun

Single Six While the 617 is sweet, the 4" coming in at 41 oz empty may be a lot for a 13 yr old or anyone for that matter, wanting to shoot all day. The Ruger Single Six 4 5/8" comes in at 32 1/2 oz (noted: single action).

Physics of the Ballistic Pressure Wave

Viscous Flows Navier Stokes .... shock-boundary layer interaction ... let's bust out the Fortran and run some code already! I have a nice one from the 80's for 2D conical sections in the hypersonic regime! :D Interesting discussion. - Fellow EngiNerd (Purdue) :D

Does anyone only have one handgun?

.22 & 9mm I am leaning towards a very similar philosophy ... like a Sig Trailside and 225. BUT ... the 1911 is just too good, so maybe a 1911 and .22 conversion at a bare minimum! The comment on one gun, gun breaks, then no gun, makes since though. I would at least have a .22...

Just cant make up my mind!

First I am no expert ... but my first handgun was a Colt Gov't 1911. Now, while I do love the feel of the 1911, the price of ammo and the word love do not go together. So, I would go with the 686, shoot .38s, reload and have the ability to shoot the same rounds as your lever action. (I would...

How are the fixed sights on Ruger MKII/IIIs?

Sights I learned on S&W 41's and shot a Ruger MkI 6" Bull barrel w/ adj sights once. That said, I was spoiled with the 41's, but I did get tired shooting one handed (after a couple hundred rounds :D ). The Ruger felt heavy as well. This is why I am looking for something that balances well...

How are the fixed sights on Ruger MKII/IIIs?

After not shooting my Colt Gov't enough (ammo price and the wife doesn't like it), I have decided to buy the gun that I should have bought first anyway. I am trying to decide between all the .22's out there ... and I have done many searches here to help with the decision. (Not going with a...

    Got a 3" K-frame?

Grips! Nice Grips! That pic and review may have just solved a delima of mine!

    College

Rules Check your University rules and guidelines. I know at Purdue, in the dorms, we weren't aloud to have blades longer than 5" (darn, no Rambo knife). Longer than that was considered a weapon. I see lots of guys with folders clipped in the pockets though (accompanied by cowboy boots :D...

Walther PPK not so popular anymore?

Bond I want to get a PPK, but it is mostly as a charm/collection piece just to be like 007. I will shoot it, but if I am going to carry a peice that size, I think I will choose a Kahr or J-fram Smithy before the PPK. I still want one though! I think everyone should have a 1911, BHP, and a...

    S&W 686 vs S&W 66

search I posted/searched similar threads and from what I have gathered, unless you are going to shoot the full house .357mag loads ALL the time, then the 66 will hold up just fine. Otherwise get the 686 for a little more reinforced frame. 66 is the K-frame, and 686 is the L-frame if I am not...

    3" vs. 4" barrel .357mag .... ?

    frames ? Just to double check ... 60 3" .357mag is a J-Frame 66 4" .357mag is a K-Frame 686 4" .357mag is a L-Frame Or is the 60 a K-frame? If I was shooting 70% + or - .38's, will the K frames hold up to the other 30% or so of shooting .357mag loads? I really liked the balance of...

    3" vs. 4" barrel .357mag .... ?

Ok, I am on a revolver kick big time. After shooting a friends model 19 I just gotta get one. Now my delima is down to what barrel length to get. The gun will be for shooting pleasure, trail gun, possible carry. I can't decided if I want a 3" or 4" though. I know I will mostly be range...

Revolvers with more than 6 shots ... ?

In another thread concerning .22 revolvers, a member made the argument that he preferred a 6-shot .22 (617) for training since its indexing would be similar to the 19/66 .357 6-shot that he used. This was opposed to the 10-shot version of the 617 (or Taurus 94 9-shot). Based on training...

    S&w 617

Hal, thanks for the reply. I forsee a 19/66 in the near future so having a close training gun would be nice (like a .22 conv for my 1911). Good explination. I think I will just have to handle the guns and make my decision. I am all about doing something right the first time. Thanks.

    S&w 617

617 I am considering the 4" 617 also, but I have realized that I could get a Taurus 94SS4 (4" 9 shot) for about $100 less. The 617 weighs 41 oz while the 94 comes in at 26.5 oz. I just want a fun plinker that can be used to teach others on. Hal, is the 10-shot indexing that...

    Taurus M94?

94 I am curious about what kinds of experiences people have had with these too. My next purchase will be a .22 revolver. I was all set on a 4" S&W 617, but the Taurus 94SS4 was brought to my attention and seems to be at least $100 less than the smith. If I am using it as just a fun plinker...

Why is it such a hard decision?

College student budget Being a fellow college student, I would suggest a .22 or 9mm for costs efficiency. Also try to shoot as many guns as possible!!! There are a lot out there and everyone has their own bias towards their favorite. If you live on campus, more than likely you won't be able...

What keeps you from getting a Glock?

Trigger I have only dry fired a Glock 23, but it did not feel good at all. Of course I am spoiled by the nice trigger pulls of 1911's, so what can I expect. Maybe someday if there is a really good deal on a 19, I would think about it.

    first dud with white box....

Duds That happend to me too with some S&B .45 ACP 230g FMJ. The primer had a clean strike, but it kindof protruded rearward. I didn't try a another strike. It just went click. I had some trouble ejecting the round, but it came out ok. I was shooting at my friends ranch. He said that he...
