Quite frankly sir I'm not sure I see your quandary. You either except responsibility for your personal safety or you don't. The rest is just paperwork.
No issues of any kind with mine (T\C classic). Shoots quite well with just about anything. CCI Mini Mags are what I use for squirrel. Eley's for longer range silliness.
No offense to any opinions, but if you want to do some thing all you really have to do is get up and do it. Deciding you can't is the best guarantee you won't.

Watch eye relief. My Bushnell elite 3200 is a great scope but the eye relief is pretty long. At 6x I can barely keep it far enough away. 4x should be plenty at 50 yards. I wouldn't sneer at 2x.
Personally I see no problem with your photos. Your finger was outside the trigger guard. The weapon was not pointed at anyone (that I can see). I saw no shrine to the head cheerleader or anything freaky like that. Maybe it's the state i live in (WV) but I had my high school graduation photos...
I've got a real deal saber with Japanese markings.(couldn't tell you much more about it then that) My kid brother swung it at me once a few years ago and I blocked it with one of those cheap decorator swords. It left a half inch deep gouge in the decorator sword, not a scratch on the real one.
