I really want a 260. That's where the problem begins!

how about a "6.5 Leopard" (6.5 WSM)? Gents, I've salted mention of this rifle in a couple threads, and this one seems appropriate for the advice I need: sell (and value) or shoot? (and pardon the hijack) How does the 6.5 WSM stack up against other calibers, and why? Its an M70 blued...

    Installing gas plug in Garand?

Does the M14 gas wrench work on the M1? Its my understanding that the gas plug on the M1A should use anti-seize on the threads. Should the same be used on an M1?

I'm enjoying your enthusiasm, and 'trout, I hope you get your heart's desire. As I'm sure you've heard, its hard to only have one! You owe it to yourself and rifle to get this pub...

    upgraded my M1As

You don't "outgrow the traditional". You make a reasoned decision based on criteria set by your values. I tend to identify with traditional values, so my criteria are colored thusly. Progress, IMO, sometimes ain't. I admit that calling your guns knuckle bustin' metrosexuals might have been...

    upgraded my M1As

tbtrout: you're not alone! not only are those Terminator looking M1A's ugly as sin, they look thorny to hold on to! Looks like a knuckle buster just by picking it up. Man! Those things look great on someone's floor all gussied up for the camera, but they look like the metrosexual of rifles...

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

FM 23-8, Chapter and verse on Ejection Might be helpful to some: Section III, Chapter 18 Functioning, a) Semiautomatic, (2) (d) Ejecting is removing the empty cartridge from the reciever. As soon as the bolt has withdrawn the empty cartridge case clear of the chamber, the force of the ejector...

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

Short stroking 'Wolf, I think you're right on the money too. To cock the hammer, the bolt must go all the way aft in the receiver? So, when I cleared the stovepiped brass and drove the op rod forward, the trigger wasn't set. When applying immediate action to the op rod, the extractor...

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

I see what you mean now. I dug up a combo tool that came with the rifle. Duh. No apparent issues with any parts. If the bolt, gas, and magazine systems are functioning properly then this is probably caused by at least one, if not both of the following factors: Older ammo? Scope mount...

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

l'46: The rifle is new to me. Its a 69xxx SAI, with all USGI parts. Its spent some time at SEI before I got it, and it should be running like a top. I cleaned the gas system, the piston was shiny clean. I gave it a wipe with CLP. I didn't torque the gas cylinder plug, but I did find marks...

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

Well, the ammo was W.German surplus w/NATO cross. 147 gr? Barrel is standard 22". What does the bolt face supposed to look like? The ejector angle is at a different angle to the middle of the bolt face. Can the ejector be put in the wrong way?

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

The ejector moves after some initial difficulty. It seems stiff and gunky to me. I'll strip it and clean it all out. Oil the spring and inside the channel?

M1A: FTE diagnosis and "how to clear" drill?

Took the M1A to the range for the first time. Went through about 100 rounds testing mags and POI. Several times I had a "stove pipe" type failure to eject. So, live round in the chamber, with the bolt closed on the empty brass, mouth up. How does that happen? What is the immediate action...

    ruger m77 safety question

I searched Cabela's as a baseline: Here's a B&C replacement stock for the M77. They also have M77 MkII ("3 position safety") stocks. Its about $170 or so...There is a note on this particular stock that your magnum caliber will need "an extra recoil lug installation". Its on my list, but...

Shameless plug for excellent .338 for sale I carried this particular rifle on an ID elk hunt. I thought I was tough enough until I spent a week humping around the River of No Return Wilderness. I'd get shot if I said anything else about that place... Any way, this rifle...
