First 1911, I've taken the plunge with a Range Officer

I agree, the Range Officer is the best at its price range.

    Thompason Auto-ordnance any good?

I had one made in Hurley NY, made in the mid-1980s. After a lot of work, it was a good reliable pistol. I sold it, and actually miss it. :(

How good are the ranges where you live?

I belong to an indoor range, the Bullet Trap (Plano, TX) that is just a couple miles from the house. It has plenty of lanes (18) at 25 yds. It has good ventilation, but the summers are hot and the range gets uncomfortable.

    Any Colt Defender owners?

A buddy of mine talked me into buying his extra Defender a few years ago. I reluctantly bought it. I fell in love with it. It is a great gun, accurate, reliable, manageable recoil. I switched the grips and got some decent wood grips. My buddy wants to buy it back. No way Jose.

    Thoughts on a 1911 in .38 Super

Here is my Auto Ordinance 1911 .38 Super from Hurley, NY. I bought it in the early 1980s, had a local 'smith do some work on it (trigger, beaver-tail, sights). It is pretty reliable.

Gun Writer Gone: Jerry Ahern, 1946-2012

I too read the Survivalist books years ago, some of his CCW/self-defense books, and followed his articles in various gun magazines. I was a "friend" of his on Facebook. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but just from the few contacts on Facebook, he seemed like a great...

But is that in the WC, or documented elsewhere? There are people who said many things on LHO, trying out a car, being at Ruby's club, etc.

Book: HEAD SHOT (deals with JFK thing)

Since I moved to the Dallas area in 1990, I have been to Dealey Plaza many times. I’ve been to the Sixth Floor several times. I was 8 years old when JFK was assassinated. I think I must have read dozens of book on the assassination, mostly conspiracy-book. I have always had issues with the...

    Glock 21SF Review

Thanks for the review on the Glock 21SF. I have one too, it is my nightstand gun, and I concur with your observations of the gun. I have several Glocks, but I also have several 1911's, they are like an old girlfriend - that keeps getting better looking with age. :D

    Primer Inserted Backward

Its happened to me once or twice, I think I never let it get to the powder/bullet phase on my RCBS single-stage. I would just carefully deprime it, and use the brass again. Chunk the old primer.

    Goodbye rubber grips!

I had rubber grips on a lot of my guns, even .32 acps. Now I've replaced them with wood grips. Maybe it has something to do with getting old. :D

lady, Don't you hate it when you make a typo and members razz you for it. Don't wory, they're good-natured. :D I can't add much to what has been said but Bersa make good, accurate, reliable guns. I have the Bersa UC 9mm and like it so much that it is a nightstand gun for my wife.
