I was actually just looking at the Marlin 980S right before I came back over here. I assume the 981 is in the same series? Looks like the Marlin might be a better choice.

I only have a full size 1911 and it's just too big for me to conceal. I would imagine somthing like a Kimber Ultra Carry II would be a good choice if you are set on a 1911 style gun for CCW.

Same here in Virginia. We have a lot of freedom, but when it comes to cars, they are a bit odd. WITHOUT a CCW, I can open carry loaded all day long. I can even walk into a bar, but when I get in the car I must unload it and place the gun in full view if an officer were to stop me and walk up...

I have both the compact and sub-compact XD9s and I LOVE them. Had a Glock and sold it. It was a fine gun, but my XD's are just better for me. The sub is my daily carry gun. I feel naked without it.
