my 1894 44 mag does the same thing as yours when I shoot max loads ( 24 gr. H110 240 gr bullet). I have shoot hundreds of rounds through it and havn't found it to be an issue. It does it about every 10 rounds. I always figured it was something I am doing diffrent, like not...
Badlander, I saw he was asking about QR not QRW. I was just showing him an option, because like you said you can't the irons with the QR bases. I think the QR is nicer looking but my Marlin has the QRW so I can use the factory irons.
Use the leupold one piece Weaver style base, it has a groove cut in it so you can see your irons. Then get the Weaver style leupold quick release rings. Midway has everything you need #463702 and #815053
I love my blr and think it is one of the finest hunting rifles made. However there would be no comparison between the two. The ar10 would be much easier to take down and clean. Cleaning the blr must be done from the muzzle. In fact other than removing the magazine Browning's manual...
Redneck,
I had a similar question when I bought my Browning BLR in 308. I called Browning and talked with one of their gunsmiths. He said it would be fine to shoot either 308 winchester or 7.62 nato in my gun. I have tried nato in my BLR without any problems.
I chronographed my 44mag Marlin 1894 last weekend. With a 240 grain Sierra HP and 24 grains of H110 it averaged 1830 fps. I hope this helps your decision.
I carry standard velocity 230 grain Winchester Rangers in my 45. But at the range I mostly shot reloads that are below standard velocity. Much more fun than shooting the heavy stuff all the time.
Sean I had several problems. I wouldn't feed very well, the bushing cracked after about 300 rounds and sometimes when you pulled the trigger the hammer would fall to half way and stop. They actually helped me on the phone to fix the hammer problem, it was just a matter of shaping the saftey a...
SeanMTX I would go with the DW. I own both a DW bobtail and a 4" Kimber and the fit and finish is better on the DW. I had some trouble with the DW when I got it but their customer service is great and the gun is now completely reliable.
Have you tried a Fobus paddle holster? They ride with the trigger guard at the belt, and certainly don't pull the butt of the gun into you. They are also inexpensive.
I shot my carry loads about once a month. I figure it is good practice and it keeps fresh ammo in my guns. But Hydrashoks are pretty expensive I wouldn't shoot a box of them a month. I carry Blackhills or Rangers, about half the price of the Hydrashoks at my gun shop.
