Took my oldest son to shoot his Christmas present today!

Nice, He shoots as good as daddy already! :p What I "like" about the DCF here is their workers are usually young childless social workers who in their "infinite experience" are going to tell you the proper way to raise your children. That's CT. Then many years ago I had indirect dealings...

Montana Outdoors: Tough hunting decisions: What would you do?

http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2008/09/18/features/outdoors/18-outdoors.txt By MARK HENCKEL Montana Outdoors In real life, hunting doesn't always present a perfect world. Bad things can happen. You have to look at a situation, quickly weigh the morals and ethics, be aware of the...

    Coyotes?

Good idea on the papers, I stick some in there next time I shoot.

    Coyotes?

LOL,,,it looked like maybe they were eyeballing me to see if maybe I was what was stinkin' so bad. I was up on the rocks near the top and they weren't too far above me, I could see them quite plainly. I made a point of moving every now and again so's they didn't think I was dead. :p Nice on...

    Coyotes?

I've used stinky squirrels, once I managed to gather up a nice collection of turkey buzzards hovering over my head. LOL...

    Shot for Coyotes?

#2 Birdshot is the largest scatter round allowed. They will let you use slugs but not buckshot. I agree on the wounded coyotes but yes it is difficult to find enough space to get into centerfire rifle or buckshot that might travel too far. I use the SG because that's what I already have, I am...

    Coyotes?

It was a gray day so I went out in jeans, a dark blue long sleeve shirt and a dark green boonie. Hid in amongst a big rock fall and set the call at the bottom about 25 yds below in a sapling on the flat ground. I probably moved too much and too fast when in position. Nothing covering my scent...

    Coyotes?

Yes it is and now I'm not quite as dumb as I was the other day. :)

    Shot for Coyotes?

Bowhunting for them sounds like a challenge. I wonder what the legalities it CT are on that. Step 1. Learn to shoot a bow! Yup, I believe I also read that in the spring on the order of 4000 fawn are taken by coyotes in CT. So I'm hoping to have some luck with that fawn scenario.

    Shot for Coyotes?

Thanks! ;) I patterned the SG a while ago, I believe it has a modified choke in it. At 50 yds it put most of the pellets of 2 3/4" x #4 turkey rounds on a turkey target, IIRC ~8" pattern, so I figure I'm good at 25 with the 3 inchers and #2 shot. The box claims 1300 fps. When I first went out...

    Shot for Coyotes?

What size is "T" shot? We're limited to nothing bigger #2 birdshot here in ct. unless it's private land, so I'm in the same boat. I'm using a youth cut 870 20 ga with 3" x #2 birdshot and I'm setting up at ~25 yds. I bought a Taurus .22mag revolver for backup but it's a POS and I wouldn't trust...

    Coyotes?

I'm just studying up on coyote hunting and recently bought a call. Electronic type. What I've read so far says howling is best and bobcat urine is a good attractant. Anybody have experience with these? My questions are: How often should you howl? What time of day is best? If you use the urine...

    More Taurus .22 mag...

Well that certainly nips the high v / low accuracy theory in the bud. Nice group! Funny, I have the same Savage but in .22LR / .410, inherited it. Sweet little gun.

    More Taurus .22 mag...

Generally I'm aware that higher velocity, at least in .22 lr, means less accuracy. Possibly this is the case here. They're so zippy the slightest irregularity in the round may make them want to head off in the wrong direction. I'd say the 6.5" mentioned in the article (good link thanks!) is...

    More Taurus .22 mag...

Hmmm, two kinds of Winchester (one JHP and one FMJ) and then some CCI JSPs. Yup, I felt like I was shooting a smoothbore because there simply no rhyme or reason to where they ended up on the paper. Nothing resembling a group at all anywhere, just all over the place. No keyholing that I could...

    More Taurus .22 mag...

Sorry, been away... Yup pathetic is my thought as well. I was shooting that SA too. Overall I'd give the thing a poor rating in almost every aspect. Finish work is lousy, trigger sucks, the action just feels weird and likes to lock up even when you're just trying to pull the hammer back for SA...

    More Taurus .22 mag...

As some of you know I recently bought a Taurus 941 - 4" in .22 mag. I'm finding the best I can hold with it on the bench is like 8" at 25 yds. Is this the best I should expect out of this gun or does it sound like maybe it's defective? The rounds are all over the place. No discernible grouping...

Happy Day Shooting new S&W 351PD

Just got me a Taurus 941 .22 mag 4" for plinking. The thing that impresses me is when I shoot it the round makes the exact same "CRACK" hitting the backstop as .22 LR does coming out of a rifle. My gun guy says, "It's the same velocities as .357 but without the mass." Recoil is a non issue...
