    Mosin-Nagant - Irregular Receiver Shape

Took it to the range earlier today and it's a shooter. I tought it was a little more accurate than my 1938 Mosin so it’ a keeper. :) Stopped by a gun shop on the way back (Sarco in Easton, PA). They had about 20 Mosins on display. I didn't see any with that distinctive hump but was able...

    Mosin-Nagant - Irregular Receiver Shape

I have to agree, it looks like a quick job to get it out the door. Compared to my other round receiver Mosin (1938), this one doesn't look nearly as smooth, especially after I took it out of the stock...see pics below. The date on the underside of the tang matches the barrel date...

    Mosin-Nagant - Irregular Receiver Shape

Hello I'm hoping someone can help with my new Mosin. It has a round receiver but not completely round. It has some kind of hump at the top. Is this normal or it is a defect? See the pics below. Thanks! Edited to add: It's a Ishevsk M91/30 dated 1943.

    Breakfree CLP / LP

Onmilo Yes, I have a better idea now...thanks. From everything I've heard and read so far, CLP is the way to go.

    Breakfree CLP / LP

John Thanks for the link. Interesting...I never would have guessed that CLP would be a better preservative than LP. This is exactly what I was looking for. I already bought a bottle of the LP so I'll probably use it as lubricant on the rails and so forth after cleaning with CLP.

John Where did you see the tests? Is there a sight you can point me to? Thanks

    Breakfree CLP / LP

Is there any difference between the CLP and LP other than CLP containing a cleaning agent? I've heard LP offers better protection / lubrication than CLP.

    Decided on Savage 10FP w/ 24" Barrel

It’s amazing how much information I’ve learned in the last couple of weeks about rifles and optics by searching through The Highroad posts and by people’s suggestions and comments. Obviously I still have a lot to learn but, thanks to the friendly people here, I think I’m on the right...

    Decided on Savage 10FP w/ 24" Barrel

I finally decided on a Savage bolt 10FP .308 w/24" barrel, I'll probably order it next week. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions from my previous post. It seems the consensus on scope is don't go cheap so I'm spending a little more on the scope than I originally planned. Decided...

    First Bolt Action Rifle

tbige I already own a AR15 type rifle in .223 and wanted something a liitle more powerful. Always wanted a bolt action rifle but never got around to it. I'm a pretty big guy so recoil doesn't bother me as much.

    First Bolt Action Rifle

Thanks tbige...will definitely keep that in mind. My local gun shop quoted me some good prices for the 10FP models (about $430 ) so I'll probably end up buying from him. Anybody know why the 20" and 26" have LE attached to the model # while the 24" is just plain 10FP?

    First Bolt Action Rifle

Everybody making really good points...making me think. Well, I still have a couple of more day to decide...going to a gun show this weekend. If I don't find any good deals there, going to my local gun shop...he quoted me some pretty good prices...

    First Bolt Action Rifle

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Ok, looks like I'm favoring the 10fp with either the 20 or 24" barrel... Slingster, that's a good point about the 20" being lighter/handier and feasible for hunting, even though I doubt I’ll ever hunt. What about a scope? Not looking to spend...

    First Bolt Action Rifle

I’m planning to buy my first bolt-action rifle and leaning toward the Savage line. It will be used mainly for target shooting and plinking at the range...no plans for hunting at this time. I've narrowed it down to a couple of models in 308 . These is what I have so far: - 11FXP3 22â€...
