I wouldn't say that I am a disaster nor am I mechanically challenged, but I did fit a replacement bolt to a Colt Single Action Army once. Probably the most complex project I have completed.
Traditional single actions with fixed firing pins (1st - early 2nd Gen Colts, USFA) should not be dry fired without a snap cap as the firing pin can batter the frame / pin bushing and itself also get damaged.
I am considering going to this but have a few reservations:
- One location (Mt. Zion) looks to possibly be in a rougher part of town (maybe). Possible to get accosted by a local because they know you have cash?
- The other church sets back off a country road. Not sure where to set up on...
The early Pythons from the 1950's and into the mid-1960's had a hollow underlug. In other words, the underlug on the gun was basically a metal tube that was open near the end of the ejector rod. Colt changed to a solid underlug to add weight to the front of the gun and also probably because it...
A few additional points:
1 - Ruger never offered any 4 5/8" flattop .44 Mag Blackhawks. There is a rumor of 1 gun made in such configuration that was presented to Elmer Keith. To the best of my knowledge it has never been found.
2 - The gun in question is an original .357 flattop based...
$375? Huh? That price might be appropriate for a new model Anniversary flattop, but this original flattop is more valuable.
The gun appears to be in good shape. If it has the original lockwork I would estimate the price to be at least $600-$650 and possibly more. Best bet would be for...
U.S.F.A. is the best, by a very wide margin.
It is a much better fitted & finished gun then even the 3rd. generation Colt SA.
I don't know that I would agree with that. Colt is turning out some quality SAAs these days with excellent fitting and timing. The guns from late 1970's and...
Kimber, I was perhaps a bit too harsh in my first post.
I will grant you that production of the older Colt action (Python, Det. Spec., etc) is possibly more involved that the creation of a Single Action Army (particularly the Python with its high-polish finish). However, I can't believe that...
they make as much money off their single actions.....and those take less skill and less time to produce. that equals more money...period
That is possibly the most inaccurate statement I have ever read on this forum.
The polishing and finishing on the Single Action Army is much more...
