Out of the box accurate single shots?

Browning High Wall, but it is more than the #1. Also, don't know which caliber you are considering. In my limited experience, it seems the larger calibers have better accuracy in #1's. My guess is whatever tolerances they hold make less difference in a bigger chamber and bore. Making them...

Everything you wanted to know about .22s

Main advantage of 22LR will be that ammo is cheap. The cheapest. Which allows lots of fun plinking, target shooting whatever. If you want accuracy, that comes easiest and cheapest in a bolt action. A CZ452 is an overall good buy for you it sounds like. Well made all wood and steel...

    Accuracy in the Rain?

Gov't proving grounds using doppler radar as they test ballistics found the rain made no difference. Hard to believe, but apparently true. I think I saw that in Robert Rinker's "Understanding Ballistics" book. Which I recommend highly for anyone interested in ballistics, and accuracy in firearms.

    10/22 clips, jamming

I had one with all the same symptoms you describe. You simply couldn't tune the rotary mags to work. BC mags worked fairly well, but hardly the run flawlessly working 10/22's are known for. Someone suggested chamfering the chamber. Take off the barrel, use a conical stone like you would...

    Burris scopes?

Burris Signature's are certainly quite good. Have owned one in 6-24x. I think Nikon Monarchs are at least as good. I also have a 6.5-20x Weaver GS which is right there with the Nikon and Burris. The 6.5-20x scopes give you more elevation adjustment than 6-24x scopes. Likely a good...

    Savage vs. Remington

I have owned a few examples of both. Savage is the bang for the buck king for accuracy. However, no Savage has shot better than a Remington 700. The Remington has a friendlier trigger (meaning easier to adjust to my liking). It has better fit and finish. And the bolt works smoother...

    Rimfire Benchrest

I agree with BrainOnSigs, 452 CZ is best deal for the money. His scope choice is a good one. I would suggest any 4-12x of good quality with AO will work well. 6.5-20x or 6-24x isn't out of place. Just don't get a cheap Chinese 6-24x for $89. Swift Premier's in this power range are...

    What Rifle has "soul"?

Well actually, as already pointed out, no firearm has a soul. But while we're picking, about any English double that has been to Africa. Might add in those Drilling's too. Built for a time and country when firearm ownership was limited. And ingenuity of the German craftsmen allowed them...

Which Savage model do I want?

Okay, more info on my opinion of weight and for that matter length. BTW, my 17 lb 10FP is extreme, the stock is filled with lead. For starters carrying a pound or two extra in your hands is lots different than having it in your boots, pockets etc. And certainly some are more fit, strong...

Which Savage model do I want?

I have a 10FP. And it has a heavy barrel and is heavy. So depends on how heavy you would really allow it to be and be happy with it. I also have lead in the stock of mine in the 223 caliber. Total weight with scope is a bit over 17 lbs. Believe me, you don't want to carry it half as far...

US facing wave of violent crimes

Well I would blame lots of it on the weather. Been unusually hot over an unusually large part of the country. Just leads to ill tempered people. And grows from there.

    blue sky m1 carbine

In Garands, Blue Sky was a re-importer stamp. They were from South Korea. And typically all I have seen in Garands were very well worn. And often had egg shaped muzzles from cleaning rods. Saw one that had to have 3 inches of the barrel cut off to get a round muzzle. Most have 'frosted'...

    steyr sbs prohunter

I pretty much would list things just as Richard.Howe did. Only adding an excellent trigger to the pro list. A con to me is bolt handle shape. Though when locked down it makes for a slicker handling package. I like the three position safety, but it can be loud when clicked off for...

Looking for a budget Tactical Rifle to shoot SUB MOA

I have a Savage 10FP Tactical that will do what you ask. And most of them apparently will. Accutrigger on new ones is nice. Has a good tapered heavy barrel. Factory stock is a bit on the flimsy side, though usable for most. Other versions have better stock for more money...

    Lever-Action .357--Best, Worst?

I liked and owned a Marlin. It shot 38's without a problem with one exception. Do not use Zero brand reloads. They jam the Marlin requiring partial disassembly almost everytime. Any of several factory 38's worked fine. As did factory 357's. The Marlin is a handy, slick, accurate unit...

    My First Rifle

Man those CZ's are just a great value. Hard to beat for a first rifle. Rarely will you find close to a consensus on something like this. You really don't need a half dozen or dozen options. Savage and Marlin bolt guns are fine choices too. But don't worry, just get a CZ, and be happy.

Help me pick a rifle to go with my new truck!

Yeah, a Marlin 30-30, which they started making in 1948, and other than a safety is little changed since. Of course, considering Mauser's were so common after the war, maybe a K98 wouldn't be so out of place.

    Kel Tec sub2000

If you will search for the Keltec Owners Group web site, they have tips on these. Like how to rubber coat the charging handle to make it better. And many other things. Neat little carbines.

9mm out of a carbine vs. out of a pistol

I have a Ruger PC9 and Keltec Sub2000. BTW, I think the Sub2K is worth getting over the High Point. With 147 gr. loads you only get about 100-150 fps. With most lighter loads it will be between 2-300fps depending on bullet weight, brand of ammo etc. But if shooting HP ammo, you...
