Remove the ramrod, next pull the wedge pin. This will let the barrel lift out of the stock. As for removing the ball I remove the nipple and use compressed air with a blow gun. The ball and powder come right out much easier than a screw type ball puller.
Pull the slide all the way back and lift it to strip the gun for cleaning. A word of caution DO NOT lose any parts as they are hard to find replacement parts for.
A lot of pre-1930 shutguns had short chambers. I sold a modle 12 today that had a 2 1/2'' chamber. It was made in 1918. It's easy to check chamber length by removing the barrel on a model 12. 20 gauge model 12's are harder to come by so DO NOT ALTER IT. that will ruin the collector value.
It has more than likley peirced the primer and a small peice of primer is wedged in the bolt. Another problem could be a loose or broken sear. These are both common causes for your problem. Good...
