    Parkerize a Lever-action?

Yes I do understand that. The point of that realization was that most guns that come in blue also come in stainless for slightly more. In the case of this Marlin, I knew that the .44 stainless would be a very rare find, and probably out of my price range if I did find it. So, instead of...

    Parkerize a Lever-action?

Well, I would love to do this myself, because I enjoy learning everything I can about the inner workings of everything (including my guns) I own. However I am not afraid to admit when something is far enough outside my realm of experience to warrant a professional's time. I don't have access...

    Parkerize a Lever-action?

I'm looking into that Cerakote. Interesting stuff! I feel like I'm going to have trouble having that stuff applied locally though. I'll keep searching.

A Carbine in 9mm or .40? Are they Worth It?

I've always said that if I could find a used Sub-2000 in .40 for a good price ($200 or less), I'd pick one up. That said, I freely admit there is really no practical use for it in my arsenal. Every one of my needs is pretty much met already.

    Parkerize a Lever-action?

Has anyone here done this? How does it work out with the moving parts (lever / bolt)? How expensive / difficult to do should this be? I got a great deal on a .44 Marlin levergun, and would like a finish more durable and brighter (stainless-like) than blued. Is parkerized even the way to...

Advice: Yes or No on this Marlin 1984 .44 @ $380

OK, so I went back to the shop and looked at the rifle again. It is NOT a microgrooved barrel. The guy who was there this time took a look and said it seems like there is almost no wear, and the grooves on this barrel aren't as deep as the ones in my .44 revolver because the revolver needs...

Advice: Yes or No on this Marlin 1984 .44 @ $380

All you folks saying I should do it: Did you read the part about the microgrooves and the fact that I will ONLY be shooting lead out of this puppy? Even if it's not microgrooved barrel, it's really worn. How would I have the rifling fixed on it? Would it shoot straight anyway?

Advice: Yes or No on this Marlin 1984 .44 @ $380

So then I should pass. My understanding is that microgroove rifling does not like lead cast bullets.

Advice: Yes or No on this Marlin 1984 .44 @ $380

I stopped by a shop today at lunch and saw a 1984 Marlin in .44. I've been looking for one and asked if they would take $380, since it was used. After going in the back and asking the manager, the friendly counterperson told me it was my lucky day, and that they would take $380. It was marked...

Doing something stupid and need advice

The m2 field looks nice, but it doesn't look like it will accept magazine extenders, and I really would like to hold at least 8 rounds. I can live with 7 but not less than that. FLNT4EVR : I plan on using a plug when hunting, like I did with my 5+1 mossberg.

Doing something stupid and need advice

Hmm.. The 930 looks like it could have an easily replaceable barrel, is that so? In that case, I could get the SPX version, a longer barrel as an option, and have a similar gun as an SLP, and lose about a pound of weight. I'd lose 1 mag capacity though... Definitely something to think about...

Doing something stupid and need advice

I used to own a Mossberg 500 combo and really thought it was the bee's knees. I outfitted it exactly the way I wanted it, had a 28" (I think) vent-rib for clays (and potentially geese one day) and an 18.5" beaded barrel for HD. Then I got bit. The bug that bit me was the bug for a semi-auto...

How easy to have a gun for protection in Los Angeles?

I've been under the impression that it is very difficult to own a firearm for self-defense in the city of Los Angeles, much like it is in Chicago or Washington DC. I've seen statistics that show these places have very high firearm-involved crime rates. When I tried to do some googling to...

    My next five (handguns)

    1) EAA witness .45/.22lr 2) *maybe someday* FN 5.7 3) .. 4) .. 5) .. Really I think I've got my bases covered pretty well otherwise. Now rifles/shotguns however... There's a place where there's plenty of room for improvement!

What is the least useful self-defense advice you have ever heard?

I've heard this too. Made me want to shoot the guy in the leg and tell him, "bet you're still going to kick my ass with the other leg aren't you?" and then proceed to let him beat me up. Too bad it's a good friend of mine :-/

Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Similar happenstance (this guy was not so lucky and shot in the brain. He lived to tell about it: "My parents separated when I was younger and I've lived in Iowa for basically my whole life. At least once a year I make the journey to western Nebraska to see my dad. It's a long long drive (12...

Some Liberals Actually DO love the Second Amendment -- teach yours to love it, too

I just had to say I read this article and am very impressed. Since about 99% (not 100% because I'm sure there's someone I'm forgetting) of my friends and co-workers are slightly to very left leaning (I fall in there somewhere too) I posted it on facebook and urged everyone I know to take a few...

How clean do you keep your guns?

I have wipedown guns and I have full cleaning guns: Pump-shotgun is a wipedown. CLP on a rag and it all gets wiped down. Every maybe year or so the bore gets cleaned. .22 revolver gets wiped down too. I'm a little more thorough on this one because it's SS not blued, so I get all the...

    Shipping loaded ammo info needed

Write ORM-D SMALL ARMS CARDRIGES on the package and ship it from a distribution center instead of a small store. It won't cost you all that much more. Make sure you pack it well as UPS treats their packages worse than potatoes. Don't want the bullets to seat too far into the case because of...
