I've been using the Viking Tactical 2 point quick adjust sling and have been very pleased with it.

I hunt with a TC pro hunter 270, and never had any issues with a single shot. My 12 yr old daughter has taken 2 deer with it so far using hand loaded youth loads. As far as a 243 goes, it is plenty enough for deer hunting.

I qualified for 9 yrs in the military with a .45, I still prefer the 40 over 45. I like the stoping power of the 40 and the reduced recoil.

Savage FCP-K 308 is a great rifle in your price range.
