    Frizzen question

I have an old flinter, and when the flint strikes the frizzen, it actually makes scores on the frizzen. Is this a sign that it's lost its hardness?

    Can you over-compress black powder?

No, I haven't shot it yet. I'm going to borrow a buddie's 94 clone and see what happens.

    Can you over-compress black powder?

It doesn't have the correct cartridge length (way too short), but because I'm shooting it in a SAA, it really doesn't matter. I guess I should just invest in a bullet puller.

    Can you over-compress black powder?

I was re-loading some 45LC with Pyrodex P and screwed up the seating height. I had 35 grains in the cartridge and seated the bullet about 3/8 too low. Is there any problem firing the round? I've rammed down some 60 grain loads in my Walker till the lever stopped, but the reloading machine has...

    1851 Conversion Problem

One of my friends has this 38 Special conversion gun that he wanted me to take a look at. Here's the problem: the barrel wont come off the arbor. It goes to the end of the wedge slot and stops dead. Also, it won't twist on the arbor. Has anyone ever seen a gun like this before? It has absolutely...

what replicas arent accurate reproductions, and how to spot a fake?

The easiest way to spot a really good fake: Take out one of the screws and look at it with a jeweler's loup. Old time screw making machinery made screws with a rounded top on the thread. Modern machinery makes a rather sharp angle at the top of the thread.

restoring original cap and ball guns

I pulled a hand out of my Uberti Walker and put it in an original first model Dragoon, and it worked perfectly (no I don't fire the Dragoon, but the gun cycles perfectly).

Thanks, Arcticap, I should have mentioned that I was using Pyrodex instead of holy black.

    CVA rifle loading question

I know that you are supposed to use FF in rifles. But if all I have is FFF, can I still use it, and does the load measure have to be adjusted? Thanks.

cap and ball misfire protocol wanted.

Only actual misfires I've ever had (where the cap goes off and the powder fails to ignite) is when I tried to use lube pills with pellets. :banghead:
