One of my friends has this 38 Special conversion gun that he wanted me to take a look at. Here's the problem: the barrel wont come off the arbor. It goes to the end of the wedge slot and stops dead. The easiest way to spot a really good fake: Take out one of the screws and look at it with a jeweler's loup. Old time screw making machinery made screws with a rounded top on the thread. Modern machinery makes a rather sharp angle at the top of the thread.

I pulled a hand out of my Uberti Walker and put it in an original first model Dragoon, and it worked perfectly (no I don't fire the Dragoon, but the gun cycles perfectly).
