Remington model 11 (not asking history or value)

What is wrong with the original barrel? Screw in chokes can be put in an existing barrel without altering it. Adding a mag extension is useless for most hunting as regulations limit mag capacity for hunting.....that is why they made the Sportsman in the first place. Jeff

    I am a moron!!!!!!

The original model 37 was a tremendous gun and the design has been in production for about as long as any pump made. So the design is a good one...the question should be is the clone as good as the real thing. IMO, any low price clone is subject to the irregularities of cheap materials and...

    Auto 5 barrel compatibility question

Considering what your doing to it now the tapped holes in the receiver are not so bad....The metal cut out on the front of the ejection port is particularly wretched. You might want to stick a couple of bolts in those holes like the ones in Frankensteins neck. But to each his own, so I'll...

    Auto 5 barrel compatibility question

$150 for an A5 barrel is not expensive. $72 is cheap if you get it to work, and expensive if you cut it up and end up throwing it away. How much did you get for the original barrel when you parted out that otherwise decent Auto-5? I hope you got a lot for the barrel as breaking up a...

    Auto 5 barrel compatibility question

Sweeney may not be wrong but he sure is not complete. There were 3 different spring and friction ring sets used on the Mag over the years. One version even had 2 recoil springs coiled together. Is the ramline forend made for a 2 3/4" gun or a 3"? I'm guessing it is a 3" or you could not...

    Auto 5 barrel compatibility question

Maybe this picture will help explain my comment. The top barrel is a 1958 Light Twelve, 2 3/4" chamber, 28" long The bottom barrel is a 1958 Magnum, 3" chamber, 32" long Same year, zactly. The 2" difference in the position of the barrel ring is just the start of the fun.

    Auto 5 barrel compatibility question

Sig fan. The difference between the guns is not just the depth of the cylinder. They are different in many dimensions mechanically. There is no way you can get a 3" chamber Auto-5 barrel to work on a 2 3/4" Auto-5 receiver. If you dont believe me look at the distance between the barrel...

Do exactly as evbutler advised even if you think it is clean as a whistle. The dreaded chamber cling is caused by things you wont feel with your finger... And report back so we can gloat a bit. Jeff

    Remington Model 11 question

cowgirl, The M11 is a classic John Browning design, made from 1905 to shortly after WW2 You already know the value as you just bought one. The value is set by what a willing buyer pays a willing seller. But in the grand scheme of things most M11's sell for $200 to $300. Post the...

    Remington Model 11 (pre WWII)

Ahhhhhh, Dave! It's interesting that the image does not need to be censored but a word does. Maybe that's the difference between history and philosophy. History is truth and philosophy is opinion. Let's split the difference and say "a bad tatoo" Jeff

    Remington Model 11 (pre WWII)

Used parts and replacement wood for M11's are common and cheap. Lots of these guns get parted out. Look for used parts on Gunbroker.com Putting plastic stocks on an early M11 or A5 is like putting makeup on the Venus de Milo. Don't mess up a classic gun, especially a family gun. Jeff ps...

    What's it worth?

I have 4 of thse short chambered A5's and know a bit about them. Browning introduced the Auto-5 in 15 gauge in 1909. They were made with 65mm chambers until production ceased during WW2. When production resumed in 1946 they had 2 3/4" chambers on all the guns made for the US market. A 65...

Just bought a browning sweet sixteen

John, your not reading the bluebook correctly..... The Sweet Sixteen was made in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale (FN) from 1937 until 1976 (with time off for WW2) and then by Miroku in Japan from 1976 to 1997 when production ceased. Jeff

"Chopping" the barrel on a Winchester 1897 shotgun for CAS?

Mat, In my experience choke has very little impact on pattern size at 20 yards, maybe 3" in the radius of the pattern. And that difference at the fringe of the pattern may help or not depending on how hard you need to hit the target to register a score. With a clay target a pellet or two is...

"Chopping" the barrel on a Winchester 1897 shotgun for CAS?

I dont know the CAS rules so please bear with me. I find myself wondering....what advantage is there to shortening the barrel of a '97? The longer barrel cant slow you down that much moving the point of aim from target to target. So why cut them at all? Jeff
