    FIRST WV PRIMITIVE WEAPONS SEASON

I suspect one of the reasons I didn't hear many shots or see others hunting the Dec. extra doe season or the Jan 10-13th MH season is that in many of our countys including my county Ritchie, the first two weeks which use to be Buck season are now hunters choice. If you buy extra stamps or are a...

    How old geezers see sights

I can get by with a rear aperture on a rifle but its better with 1 or 1.25 readers rear site front site and target acceptable clear, use stronger ones and target blurs a bit.

Old style conicals in an inline?

I have a CVA Buckhorn magnum 50 cal. I use the Lee 250 gr Realbullet. Sense this in a 1 in 28 twist it should prefer a longer bullet however with 80gr 777 and the 250 gr Real I get about 1500 fps and near 1 1/2 group @ 100yd. Fairly light recoil too. Trying the longer 320gr Real is on my to do...

    FIRST WV PRIMITIVE WEAPONS SEASON

WV has a blackpowder m/l season in December for sidehammer or inline the season I was alluding to was Jan 10 through the 13th its our first primitive weapons season sidehammers and non compound bows only. I was disappointed to see almost no one but my son and I hunting. Many folks I suspect got...

    FIRST WV PRIMITIVE WEAPONS SEASON

Ok, I know thers some of you feller hillbillys out there on this site. I saw deer 2 different times I would have shot if I have my scoped inline. With my cva hawken and iron sights though and the 100yd + range I held my fire. My son and I were the only one hunting on my land and the whole 4 days...

What happened to hunting rifle stocks?

I agree, I have carried my 270wsm a-bolt hunter walnut stock about 14 seasons now, up and down our steep WV hills. Slipped and fell with it a few times. Get caught out in the rain 2-3 times a season, what few scratches and dings it has I call battle scars. Most of my hunt'en buddys guns are (...

What difference does a muzzle break have on accuracy?

Who likes muzzle brakes? My only experience with muzzle brakes was shooting a friends Savage 110 in 300 Win Mag. I shot several shots with his reloads I think 180 grainers. Recoil a bit more than maybe 243 Win. I was shooting off bags over the hood of his truck and yes was wearing ear plugs...

    Bad shoulders

Mr Woody, One of the things I had thought of is the 6.8 being .277 same as my 270WSM, and me being a reloader I could buy the 110grain bullets intended for the 6.8 and download the 270WSM to maybe 2700-2900fps. Should be pretty mild recoil and would save me buying a new rifle. The big question...

    Bad shoulders

Snowbank, I don't know if your doc meant 30lb with the one arm or both. My doc after about 6months told me I could go ahead and cut my fire wood. In doing that I often lift 100+ lb logs up on the tailgate of my truck. Not saying I should be doing that just that I can and do. Here lately though I...

    Bad shoulders

Justen, your pretty much right, I don't need much more then a 3030 on my farm but I use to hunt on my friends farm till he sold it, 300+ was pretty much the norm shooting hill to hill. The long reach of the 270WSM came in very handy and is a tack driver in accuracy. In short I love the rifle...

1.5 billion dollar's what do you buy first :)

Put better retreads on my ole 89 Ford F150 4X4, maybe an auto tran. to replace the 4 speed stick, get the a/c fixed... or maybe trade it in for a newer say 99 or 2000 model if I think I can afford it. Spend any change left over on guns and reloading supply's. Nice to dream.

    Bad shoulders

Don't remember if they told me the maker. I had the surgery at a VA hospital in Pittsburgh, Dr. McMann who is a sportsmedicine doc who does contract work for the VA. Don't know who VA will give me for the right shoulder but I'll request McMann if I can. He done a great job.

    Bad shoulders

Forgot to mention I'll be 65 in may if wife don't knock me in the head first. From what I have heard rotor cuff is worse then joint replacement?? Sounds like I might want to stay away from near max loads and maybe load down to something like fast 270WIN velocitys.

    Bad shoulders

No not talking about the ones on the cartridge, but the ones on the hunter. 3yrs ago I had complete joint replacement left shoulder. No big problem joint works great and I shoot righthanded. Problem is now the right sholder is going fast. For those of you who have had your shooting shoulder...

How many of you load near or at max

Loaded my A-bolt 270WSM max. about 3300fps. with 130 gr. , 3200fps with 140gr. Had to replace the barrel @ about 2500-3000 rounds due to eroded throat.Loading the new Douglas barrel bout 2 grains below max. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer then the 11 years it took to shoot the old...

    270 wsm brass

I have enough life left in the brass I have to do me maybe 3-4 years if I don't shoot too much. But what kind of fun would that be?

    270 wsm brass

Yea I could neck down 7mm or 300WSM, if I find some once fired at decent price I would. Also I thought of buying loaded ammo and shooting it up. Something wrong though when you can buy factory loads cheaper then just brass.

    270 wsm brass

    Barrel heat, effect on groups.

Aim small to hit small JMR40.Your post was the key to why my groups were not as small from the new barrel as they should have been, I thought it was all due to barrel heat. Turns out that under certain conditions I was having trouble seeing the bulls-eye clearly. My range is a path cut out of...
